March 8, 2005

 Dear Fellow Members,

Our meeting on Monday, March 14, 2005 will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake, 1700 Keller Springs Road, Carrollton, TX 75006 in the Environmental Classroom at the back near the Peggy Perry Oliver Genealogy & Local History room.

In celebration of National Womens History month, our speaker in March will be Vivian Anderson Castleberry. Mrs. Castleberry, multiple award-winning retired journalist, is a writer and public speaker who seeks, through her work, to give women a presence and a voice for their incredible accomplishments throughout history. Jan & I have very much enjoyed her book, Daughters of Dallas. She will be speaking to us about her recently published book on the life of Dallas pioneer Sarah Horton Cockrell entitled SarahThe Bridge Builder. After the death of her husband, Alexander Cockrell, Sarah became Dallas first millionaire while successfully rearing her four children. The biography of this extraordinary woman is a blueprint for women today.

Our condolences go out to our 2nd Vice President, Sue Bucy, whose father recently passed away.

Our Valentine Party last month was a great success. We want to thank everyone who brought refreshments and decorations.

PCHS members are encouraged to volunteer to serve as an officer for the 2005-2006 year. Please contact an executive board member if you are willing to serve.

Our next meeting will be on April 11, 2005. Jim Gatewood will speak to us about Captain Will Fritz and the Dallas Mafia. His book on Captain Fritz as well as his new J.F.K. Assassination Documentary on DVD will be available for sale.

Happy St. Patricks Day,

Richard Monroe
