First Bank in Weatherford
118 Houston Ave., Weatherford

The building, originally owned by James.R. Couts from Arkansas, was built around 1870 near the Weatherford Courthouse. Mr. Couts was the President of Citizens' National Bank. It still contains the original vault and door. Later the French company, Franco-Texan Land Company, occupied the building while they were trying to bring the Intercontinental Railroad through Weatherford. The 23rd governor of Texas, S.W.T. Lanham, had his law office in the building shortly after the Civil War when he was elected Parker County's district attorney.

In the following years, the Western Union Company and a radio recording studio were located in the building. The Cotten family sold the property to Bob and Carolyn Glenn in 2011, who restored the building before the historical marker was awarded.
