W. M. Lewis Settled In Parker County Later Palo Pinto Co.

W. M. Lewis was an early settler of this and Parker Counties, having come here in 1872 after residing in Parker County since 1865; his son, J. J. Lewis, accompanied him from Kentucky.  His wife was Emily Robins Lewis.  Others in the family were Tom, George, Allen L., Dan and Sallie.

Descendants here in the county are Dan, Al, Mayme and Susie who married Tom Eubanks.  She was the daughter of J. J. Lewis.

Lewis freighted over the old Belknap-Fort Worth road and at one time when there had been a massacre of freighters, he was the first to arrive on the scene to assist with burials and give assistance to the living.

At one time, while they lived in Parker County, Indians attempted to capture Mrs. Lewis but a band of citizens caught up with them and after some of the raiding party, recaptured Mrs. Lewis.
