W. C. Chisolm Settled North Of Mingus


W. C. Chisolm, was born in Gordon, Alabama July 19, 1853 and he married Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of David Rogers of Dawson, Georgia.  They were married January 26, 1876 and in 1880 moved to Red River County, Texas.  Nine years later they landed in Palo Pinto County, settling a mile and a half north of Mingus.  Some of their descendants are living in this country and they are: a son, B. B. Chisolm, who was 6 months old at the time they entered Texas, S. R. Chisolm, Mrs. L. Ames and a grandson Jack Hart, all of Mingus.

Six of their children are living.  They are B. B., S. R., and H. G. Chisolm; Mrs. Katie Hart of Old Glory; Mrs. J. W. Anderson of New Castle and R. F. Chisolm of Norman, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Chisolm was from a long line of Baptist preachers and they were members of that church.  Mr. Chisolm's ancestors came from Scotland, settling in Virginia in 1640.  He was a descendant of Benjamin Harrison, signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Another Chisolm of his linage, one Jesse Chisolm who made famous the Old Chisolm Trail to Kansas City was his great uncle.  Other descendants of the couple include Mrs. Lee Wilson, Mrs. Horace Winkle, Col. W. C. Chisolm, B. H. Chisolm, r. J. Chisolm, Margie Chisolm, Mrs. C. A Agnew, Clair Hart, Mrs. Carl Hunt, Pete Agnnew, Mrs. Mac, McCord, S. R. Chisolm, Jr., Mrs. Frank Felts, Mrs. Jerry Hart, J. E. Ames, Mrs. Marlosos Cates and two from Minereal Wells, who are Mrs. Thomas Stockstill and Mrs. travis Cruse.  B. B. Chisolm of Mingus is precinct chairman of Box 18.
