Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Betty Came To Texas in 1857,
Settled At Palo Pinto


Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Betty came to Texas early and their first child born in Palo Pinto County was born July 24, 1857, about a month before the county was organized.  Robert Carol Betty was a Baptist minister, born November 3, 1815, in Smith County, Tennessee and died about a month before he was 101 years old.  On April 20, 1838 he and Dorcas Warren were married.  She died in 1925 and both are buried in a pioneer cemetery, 15 miles south of Cisco.

The Bettys settled at Palo Pinto and ranched on what is now known as Betty Prairie early in 1857.  They had 13 children, one of whom was Louisa, born September 6, 1842.  She married John G. Moss in 1863, their daughter, Celia Eustace married Eddie Layton Doss, December 15, 1897.

The Doss' had a daughter, Zoe, who married Edwin Samuel Crenshaw.  Their son, Samuel Edward Jr., married Delores Jenkins and their children are Linda Lee, Edwin and Sammy.

The second child of the Doss' was a son, John Doss, who married, Laura Belle Hearn and their daughter, Coral May, married Dan Tolbert.  The Tolbert children Jimmie, Eddie Danna, Cathy and Linda are the sixth generation of Betty descendants to live in Palo Pinto County.  John Doss married a second time, Thelma McBrayer and they have a daughter Kay.
