Centennial Queen Candidates Honored With Dance Friday Night At Baker

Frances Brackeen (Mrs. Carlton) Murphy was honored Friday evening at West Terrace of the Baker Hotel by Centennial Bells and Beaux, when a dance was held for her, Duchess Dell Turner and their court.

Horace Puckett and his orchestra played for dancing and the identity of the queen was revealed at 10:30 when she, and her princesses and the duchess and her attendants were presented by Fred Brewer, secretary of the Palo Pinto Centennial Association.  This marked the start of centennial activities.

The arch through which the centennial royalty entered to make their bows, was decorated with greenery and topped with an arrangement of white stock and red carnations.  The queen was gowned in blue of ballerina length, and carried an arm bouquet of red carnations.  She was escorted by her husband.

Duchess Dell Turner wore a yellow formal gown and carried a nosegay of pink rosebuds.  She was escorted by Mike Wells.

The third in the balloting was Anita Pratt, princess, and she was escorted by her husband, William D. Pratt.  Others who were runners-up in the queen's contest and who will be princesses in the queen's court during the centennial are Sandra McCloud who was escorted by her father, Dr. Ben L. McCloud; Betty Jean Meyers, escorted by her husband, Frank Meyers Jr.; and Linda Lou Gill of Palo Pinto who was escorted by Billy Glidewell.

Attendants to the duchess also runners-up in the contest are Frances Hall of Graford, escorted by Bud Massie; Barbara Taylor of Santo, escorted by Neil Harvey; Joyce Yell of Strawn and Mary Sue Mayo of Gordon.  All were presented at the ball and will reign with the queen and duchess during the centennial.  The attendants wore formal gowns of various colors and wore flower wristlets.

"Star Dust" was selected for the grand march that followed the presentation.

Mrs. Idys Cox had charge of decorations which she and Mrs. Jessie Dalton McNeal provided.
