Frances Brackeen (Mrs. Carlton) Murphy was honored
Friday evening at West Terrace of the Baker Hotel by Centennial Bells
and Beaux, when a dance was held for her, Duchess Dell Turner and their
court.
Horace Puckett and his orchestra played for dancing and the identity of
the queen was revealed at 10:30 when she, and her princesses and the
duchess and her attendants were presented by Fred Brewer, secretary of
the Palo Pinto Centennial Association. This marked the start of
centennial activities.
The arch through which the centennial royalty entered to make their
bows, was decorated with greenery and topped with an arrangement of
white stock and red carnations. The queen was gowned in blue of
ballerina length, and carried an arm bouquet of red carnations.
She was escorted by her husband.
Duchess Dell Turner wore a yellow formal gown and carried a nosegay of
pink rosebuds. She was escorted by Mike Wells.
The third in the balloting was Anita Pratt, princess, and she was
escorted by her husband, William D. Pratt. Others who were runners-up
in the queen's contest and who will be princesses in the queen's court
during the centennial are Sandra McCloud who was escorted by her father,
Dr. Ben L. McCloud; Betty Jean Meyers, escorted by her husband, Frank
Meyers Jr.; and Linda Lou Gill of Palo Pinto who was escorted by Billy
Glidewell.
Attendants to the duchess also runners-up in the contest are Frances
Hall of Graford, escorted by Bud Massie; Barbara Taylor of Santo,
escorted by Neil Harvey; Joyce Yell of Strawn and Mary Sue Mayo of
Gordon. All were presented at the ball and will reign with the
queen and duchess during the centennial. The attendants wore
formal gowns of various colors and wore flower wristlets.
"Star Dust" was selected for the grand march that followed the
presentation.
Mrs. Idys Cox had charge of decorations which she and Mrs. Jessie Dalton
McNeal provided.
