Patsy Murphy and Hanna Butler were co-chairmen for
the Centennial Belles Style Show held at 3:00 Wednesday afternoon at the
Crazy Hotel in the pavilion.
Mrs. Lola Brown and Mrs. Dan Moore played the background music for the
show. Thelma Doss was the commentator.
Judges were Mrs. William N. Beard, Mrs. Herbert D. Edgar and Mrs. E. W.
Stewart.
Mrs. Otis Moon was the winner in the oldest authentic dress category.
She wore a dress over 100 years old, that had been black at one time but
had faded brown. This was the oldest dress modeled.
Mrs. Jacqueline Hinkson of Strawn, was winner in the prettiest all
around dress category, Jacqueline wore Molly Dillahunty's wedding dress
and her hat, too. Mrs. J. L. Osborne, Mineral Wells was the winner
of second place in this division. Her's was a blue and black
stripe cotton with matching bonnet.
Mrs. Carl Hickman was the winner of the best gay 90 costume. Her
hat was the true sailor type and her dress was softly draped in the
style of that day.
In the prettiest girl division, Becky Campbell and Joan Goldston were
the winners. Becky wore black patent Roman sandals, pink
stockings, pantalettes and a full tiered skirt with matching bonnet of
sprigged dimity. Joan wore blue in a straight skirted dress.
Patsy Harrell was the winner of the Civil War period. Patsy had
her hair done on one side with long curls and wore red flowers in her
hair.
Her dress was red and white with full panniers and the skirt was hopped.
Eunice Garrett was second place winner, also in red and white.
Her's was a hooped skirted dress with tight basque, matching bonnet and
umbrella.
In the mother and daughter division Mrs. J. R. Reeves and her three
small daughters, Donna, Rhonda and Patricia, wore identical dress in
orchid print trimmed in solid orchid organdy ruffles. Second place
winners were Mrs. Ralph Harbus and daughter Janis in yellow print with
solid yellow trim bonnets and dresses.
The judges announced that two mother and daughter groups were almost
outstanding, Mrs. Polly Cunningham, age 95 and her daughter, Grace
Perkins; and Mrs. Jacqueline Hinkson and baby. The baby wore a
dress 70 years old.
Final awards in this group will be made at Palocate, Thursday evening. |
