Dr. J. H. McCracken, one of the veteran physicians of this county, came here "on a visit" to his brother, John, who had a school in progress and while on the visit, was persuaded to stay and make his home.  He traveled on horseback as there were few roads passable for a buggy and carried his medical supplies in saddlebags.  Physicians who were here when Dr. McCracken arrived were Drs. Raines, Yeager and Luttrell.  Dr. McCracken married Sue Wilson, daughter of a pioneer couple and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary before his death.  Mrs. McCracken has since passed away.

A son, Dr. Joe McCracken, lives in Dallas; a son Tom, died several years ago, and two daughters, Mrs. Ellison of Ft. Worth and Mrs. Elders (Mary Sue), and several grandchildren are descendants of the couple.
