J. P. Gold

Smith County, Tennessee was the birthplace of J. P. Gold and his wife, Millie Agee Gold, who came to Hint County, Texas and landed in Palo Pinto County in 1885.  Gold was born March 3, 1845 [sic] and died January 13, 1934 and is buried in the family plot on the old homestead.  They were members of the Baptist Church, and he was a farmer.  The cemetery plot is still owned by the Gold descendants and there is a log barn still standing on the place and two pear trees still living.

Three sons of this couple, Albert Gold, age 86; and Loften Gold age 74, of Lone Camp and F. B. Gold, age 71 of Santo still live in this county.  Another brother W. F. Gold of Wichita Falls age 90 is also living.  Children who have died are Ed. Eugene, Constance M., Millie and Alice.  Lela Gold Jones is living in Lubbock and Ellen Gold Hinds lives in Mesa, Arizona.

J. P. Gold was a Confederate soldier, serving for 4 years and spent 9 months as a prisoner of war.  He served Palo Pinto County as Commissioner in 1896 and his son, Albert, has his certificate of election signed by W. R. Newbrough, County Judge and C. A. Culberson, Governor of Texas.  He also has a spoon mold that has been handed down in the family for 5 generations.
