Pictured is the exterior of the Santo Drug Store, owned and operated by J. E. Bankhead of Santo, a registered pharmacist for 57 years.  He has owned and operated a drug store for 64 years.  He started out at Millsap and has been in Santo for 51 years.  His father was Dr. G. G. Bankhead a native of Mississippi, later practiced in Millsap.  Bankhead started a drug store of his own in 1893.  J. E. Bankhead married Miss Roxie Dalton in 1906.  Their three children were Lillie Mae Damm of Eliasville, Bernice Fulgham of Andrews, Texas and J. E. Bankhead Jr., who passed away February 18, 1957.  J. E. Bankhead became a registered pharmacist in 1901 and his certificate is No. 163, State of Texas.
