J. A. Goodbar From Illinois Back In 1884

Mr. and Mrs. James A. Goodbar came from Illinois to Mineral Wells in 1884 for their health and finding it, remained here.  They took mineral baths in a tent, with G. P. Barber, father of George D. Barber, owning the place.  They bought a place 3 miles west of Mineral Wells and lived there, with their two sons, Fayette, who was born here and J. W. Goodbar.  Mrs. Goodbar died in 1895.

J. A. Goodbar married in 1896, Cora Jane Henson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Henson, who came here in 1877, six of their seven children live in this county.  They are Mmes. Marie Harrington, Ethel Halford, Elaina Owens, Viola Reedy; Nelson Goodbar and Miss Sidea Goodbar, all of Mineral Wells and the other son, Alfred lives at Texas City.

There are a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but few of them live in this county.  Mr. goodbar died in 1934.
