Henry Clay McClure
Arrives In County Back In 1876




Henry Clay McClure, a native of Alabama, came to Cherokee County, Texas, with his parents and his wife, Texas Anna [Texana] Stewart McClure, also born in Alabama (1852), arrived in Palo Pinto County in 1876.  They settled 4 miles north of Palo Pinto and for 50 years owned Kyle Mountain.  They were charter members of the Palo Pinto Methodist Church and engaged in ranching through the years.  Mr. McClure died in 1890 at the age of 40 and Mrs. McClure died in 1933, and both are buried at Palo Pinto.

Descendants of the couple still in the county are a son, O. H. McClure; two grandsons, O. B. and A. C. McClure, Grace Bennett McClure, Madge McClure, Mike McClure and Larry Dean McClure.  Other descendants are Mary Leigh Reagan, Luanna Eeds, Dorace Melton, John, Bill and Becky Reagan, Walt, Clay and Leigh Melton, Tony Eeds and Lela Dalton, the latter of Ft. Worth.
