Capt. Dillahunty And Wife Arrive Golconda, 1857


Capt. J. H. Dillahunty and his wife, Louise, came to Golconda in 1857 and established the first store in the town, which was later to become Palo Pinto.  They were natives of Tennessee.  Mr. Dillahunty died May 13, 1897, and is buried at Strawn.

The only child of the Dillahuntys was a daughter, Mollie, who married R. C. Hinkson, was for many years in the mercantile business in Strawn.  The Hinksons son, Robert Dillahunty Hinkson married Laura Dalton, daughter of Charley Dalton of Pickwick.  Their children and grandchildren are Robert Dalton Hinkson and children, Robert, Eric, Laurann, Sandra, Conn, Susie and Michael, all of Graford; Pat H. Hinkson and children, Ricky, Danny and Larry, all of Strawn; and Bill H. Hinkson and his children, Billy Dillahunty and Kaylea of Strawn.
