James Oscar Couger and Wife Arrive From Mississippi


James Oscar Couger and Mary Margaret Rogers Couger were married in their native state of Mississippi in January 1873, and came to Texas in 1885.  For four years they lived in Collin County, before coming to Palo Pinto County where they settled in 1889.  They were Methodists and engaged in farming after coming here.  Mr. Couger died in December 1914 at the age of 75 and Mrs. Couger died December 3, 1889, at the age of 39.  Both are buried at Pickwick

Their children:  Mrs. Mece Reed Crawford, Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers Caudill and Isaac Couger of Graford; John Couger of Bunger, Mrs. Kate Logsdon of Palo Pinto and a son, Charles Brown Couger (deceased) of Palo Pinto.  Grandchildren are Mrs. Mary Amelia Dyer, Winifred Couger, Velma Jewey Marshall, Faye Kathleen Grissett, Wilma Inez Crow, Charles Brown Jr. (deceased, killed in World War II), Margaret Ramsey, Roy Logsdon, Lillian Henderson, Margaret Irene Donnell, Edward Couger Logsdon, Shirley Mece Ball, Charles Phillip Carlin Logsdon, Frances Smith, Fred Couger, Mamie George Beavers, Alice Gilma Jones, Stuart Jackson Couger, Mary Jo Williams, Catherine Jones, Virginia Kincaid, Mece Ribble, Zelma Murrell, Almina Schlittler Cox, Bennye Wolfe, John and James Couger, Frances Belding, Willie Felix and Rupert Couger, Loretta Ruth Alexander, Mecky Mece, Quincy Mack Couger (killed in World War II) and Omer Eugene Couger.
