Andrew Young Pitts and Alice Newberry were married august 8, 1883, in Fannin County, Texas, and came to Palo Pinto County in 1900.  Mr. Pitts came to Texas with his father, A. J. Pitts from Mississippi in 1866 when he was 10 years old, and Mrs. Pitts came with her father, Jesse Newberry of Alabama, in 1858, when she was 3 years old.  Mr. Pitts was a farmer and he died in this county May 25, 1914.  Mrs. Pitts died September 30, 1933, and both are buried in New Hope Cemetery, near Lone Camp.  They were members of the Christian Church.

A daughter of A. Y. Pitts, Mrs. Emma Roye, and her family live at Gordon at this time and other living descendants include Mrs. Lena Williams of South Bend; Judge E. L. Pitts of Amarillo and Mrs. Marie Sullivan of Graham.

When the children were still at home the family moved to a farm on Dodson Prairie, which has since been sold to the county for a county farm.  After moving there, they cleared the farm and lived there for several years, attending school.  Children of the couple that are dead are Jesse J. Pitts (buried at New Hope), Allen R. Pitts (buried at Palo Pinto) and Walter P. Pitts who was buried at Gordon

The son, E. L. Pitts taught school in Palo Pinto County six years after attending college at Commerce and the University of Texas.  After teaching school, he was elected county superintendent of schools, serving 8 years.  He was then elected county judge and was serving in that capacity when the first paved roads were built in the county.  He moved to Lubbock at the end of his last term as county judge in 1929.  In that county he served 6 years as county judge and 6 years as district judge, after which he was elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Civil Appeals at Amarillo and he is serving his 15th year in that capacity.  Pitts married Lilla Belle Llewellyn of Fort Worth and they have two daughters, Mrs. A. C. (Lois) Stevens and Mrs. C. P. (Virginia Lee) Newman.  Their grandchildren are Jimmy Stevens, age 17, and Christopher (age 7) and Ted (age 4) Newman.  Both their children and grandchildren live in California.
