Eugene C. Martin, 74, of Amarillo died Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home Benton Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with the Rev. Bryan Vallance officiating. Burial will be in Cal Farley's Boys Ranch Cemetery.

Mr. Martin was born Aug. 31, 1935, in Canadian. He was a graduate of Boys Ranch High School.

Gene's life work and love was driving a truck on the open road. He often scheduled his runs to destinations that also would allow him to visit family members across the country. He loved driving so much that even after his retirement, he pursued his passion for driving by driving a bus for Durham Transportation.

Mr. Martin was a member of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church. He loved spending time with his granddaughters who were truly the loves of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lynn Martin; and a stepson, Samuel Smiddy.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Putman and husband Roger of Lone Oak; a son, David Hughes of Hermleigh; three granddaughters, Nikki Weiss and husband Chris, Teagan Smiddy and Cayla Johnston, all of Amarillo; a grandson, Christopher O. Ray of Amarillo; a special companion, Deborah Selby of Amarillo; a great-granddaughter, Bostyn Weiss of Amarillo; four brothers, Kenneth Martin of Beaumont, Arthur Martin and wife Inga of Colorado Springs, Colo., Leslie Martin and wife Cindy of Sadler and Larry Martin of Thornton, Colo.; three sisters, Mary Ruth Jones of St. Louis, Joyce Craig and husband Victor of Arvada, Colo., and Bonita Malier of Thornton; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX, 79174-0001.
