OPAL POWELL CADENHEAD

Services for Opal Inez Powel Cadenhead, 62, who died Saturday at her home
were at 4 p.m. today at Cate-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Ernest Hollis and the Rev. Herman Arnett officiated. Burial was
in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Born June 13, 1919 in the Claytonville Community, she married William
Cadenhead in February 1954, in Carlsbad, N.M. He died Feb. 1, 1958. She
was a retired beautician and a member of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by four brothers, Charles G., Kenneth W. and L J. Powell
all of Sweetwater and Roland R. of Spring.
Pallbearers were Michael, Jimmy Don, Charles Ray and Tracy Powell, Barry
L., Gary Don, Delbert and Russell Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were Randy Henshaw, Wayne Jones, Carol Burnett and
Paul Rieger.
LOUIS HELM

ROSCOE-Louis Helm, 83, of Coahoma, a retired farmer and a former Roscoe
resident, died at 6:50 p.m. Sunday at a Big Spring Hospital after an
extended illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Salem Lutheran Church with the
Rev. Don Marquart, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe
Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Born May 5, 1899 in Washington County, he married Ella Kasting July 18,
1918 in Coryell City. He farmed in Haskell, Jones and Nolan Counties until
retiring in 1972. He lived in Roscoe from 1948 until 1980 when he moved to
Coahoma.
He was a member of the First Salem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Agnes) White of Big
Spring and Mrs. Richard (Willie Mae) George of Abilene; five sons, Herbert
of Roscoe, Lewis of Ira, Milbert of Monahans, Robert of Coahoma, and Albert
of Childress; two sisters, Lillie Matthews of Lockney and Bertha Keltner of
McGregor; a brother, Herman Sr. of Roscoe; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body will arrive at McCoy Funeral Home on Tuesday.
SYLVESTER HOWARD

Sylvester Howard, 76, of the Hobbs Community died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at
Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Hobbs Baptist Church with the
Rev. L.D. Parks, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hobbs Cemetery,
directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
He was born Nov. 22, 1905 in Cuero. He was a farmer. He moved to Roby in
1950 and to the Hobbs Community in 1960.
WILLIAM L. CADENHEAD

Funeral services for William L. Cadenhead, 46, World War II Army veteran of
the Aleutian Islands, Corregidor and other campaigns, will be held here
Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cate-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel.
Services will be conducted by Tommy Bonner with burial in Sweetwater
Cemetery.
Mr. Cadenhead died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday in a Houston Hospital. The body was
brought here on the Santa Fe Railroad at 4:24 a.m. Monday and will be in
state at the Cate-Spencer Chapel until time for services.
He was born in Comanche County, was a welder and was well-known here for
many years.
On Feb. 18, 1953, he was married to Opal Powell in Roswell, N.M.
Survivors include his wife, two sisters--Mrs. Mary Kiser and Mrs. Adell
Williams of Grandfalls, Tex., his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Newt Coan of
Sweetwater, his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Powell of 1411 Walnut
Street.
For the past several years, he had made his home in Beaumont and Houston.
ALEX RUSSELL DAVIS

Alex Russell Davis, 64, a longtime Sweetwater resident, died at 6:45 p.m.
Tuesday at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.
Born March 9, 1918 in Cooper, he lived in Nolan County most of his life. A
World War II veteran, he married Mary Frances Free October 27, 1945 in
Cooper. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and a past member of
the Quarterback Club.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (June) Jones and Mrs.
Carol (Debbie) Burnett, both of Sweetwater; four sons, Barry Lynn, Delbert
Ray and Russell Alan all of Sweetwater and Gary Don of Gainesville; his
mother, Bessie Davis of Sweetwater; a sister, Ida Mae Toler of Mesquite;
two brothers, Alvin of Las Vegas, Nev. and Will of Abilene, nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceeded in death by a brother and a granddaughter, Hillary Shae
Davis in April 1982.
E. FRANK DAVIS

E. Frank Davis, 81, of 810 Circle Dr., well-known retired Fisher County
farmer, died here Tuesday night at Simmons Memorial Hospital at 7:45
o’clock from a six-weeks illness.
He had lived here since 1942 and had lived north of here from 1930-1942.
He was born in Jackson, MS on Jan. 1, 1879.
Survivors include his wife and three sons---Will A. Davis and A.R. Davis of
Sweetwater, A.L. Davis of Ventura, Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Mae Toler
of Mesquite, Texas; one brother, Russ Davis of Barstow, CA. One son, Jim,
preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Fourth and Elm

E.F. DAVIS SERVICES HELD HERE THURSDAY

Funeral services for E. Frank Davis, 81, well-known retired Fisher County
farmer who died here Tuesday night were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the
Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ.
The minister officiating was Stanley Shipp. Burial was in Sweetwater
Cemetery with Patterson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
He had made his home here since 1942. Survivors include his wife and three
sons---Will A. Davis and A.R. Davis of Sweetwater, A.L. Davis of Ventura,
Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Mae Toler of Mesquite; one brother, Russ
Davis, of Barstow, Calif.
Pallbearers were Bill Harvey, D.O. Bonner, Buck Davis, Vernon Shaw, Austin
Buck and C.C. Stroble.
JIMMIE F. DAVIS DIES OF ACCIDENT INJURIES

Jimmie F. Davis, 32, who was seriously injured in a traffic accident near
Gail Saturday night while he and his wife and brother were en route home to
Sweetwater from Hobbs, N.M., died in Snyder hospital Tuesday morning at
8:45.
Mr. Davis, who had moved with his wife to Hobbs, N.M., about a week ago to
take a job, was coming home to his family here when the car he was driving
overturned.
His wife, the former Jean Richards, to whom he was married about two months
ago, sustained two fractures of the neck and is in serious condition in
Snyder hospital.
His brother, A.L., who was with them, was not seriously hurt.
Funeral services were held here Thursday at West Side Baptist Church,
conducted by the pastor, the Rev. L.B. Moss, and the Rev. Cleitus
Beights, pastor of West Sixth Street Methodist Church. Burial was in Sweetwater
Cemetery with Patterson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Davis was a veteran of World War II and military rites at the grave will be
conducted by the local V.F.W. Post.
Jimmie F. Davis, who had lived in Sweetwater since 1945, was born Dec. 20,
1920, in Cooper, Tex. Survivors are his widow; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
E.F. Davis of Sweetwater; three brothers, A.R. and Will A. Davis of
Sweetwater, A.L. Davis of Hobbs; one sister, Mrs. Frank Toler of Garland,
Tex.
HASKELL R. FREE

Haskell Reace Free, 80, of 403 Grape St., Sweetwater, died at 1:45 p.m.
Sunday at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Baptist Church with
Rev. Lester Carter of Rotan and Rev. Ken Holmes, Broadway Baptist Church,
officiating. Burial will be at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of
McCoy Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 15, 1906, in Pecan Gap, and married Ida Mae Taylor July
16, 1927, in Capitola. He was a carpenter and worked in maintenance at
Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill. He had resided in Sweetwater since 1916.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae, of Sweetwater; two sons, Bernie Ray
Free of Austin and Donald Joe Free of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carroll Free, and a daughter, Lois
Adair.
Pallbearers will be Cliff Henson, Dalton Head, S.C. Head, Dewey Baxter,
Glen Adair and Glen Talbot.
LOTTIE L. DUNN

Lottie Lorena Dunn, 76, of 611-H Jack Lambert Dr. died at 10:45 a.m.
Saturday in Lubbock.
Services were today at 2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories.
Eddie Messer, minister at Fourth and Elm Street Church of Christ,
officiated. Burial was in the Palava Cemetery with McCoy’s in charge.
She was born Sept. 4, 1909 in Harm, Texas. She was a nurse for many years
and had lived most of her life in Sweetwater.
She married Horace Dyer Dunn in July of 1929 in Roby.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Legion of Lubbock; one step-sister,
Jaynelle Carpenter of Abilene; one granddaughter, Saron Ingley, Lubbock,
one brother, Warren Hendrix of Sweetwater.
She is also survived by two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Allen Ingley, Ronnie Hendrix, O.L. Sharrock, L.E. Graves,
Clyde Holladay and C.H. Rudd.
WELDON McGLAUN

Weldon “Bill” McGlaun, 79, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, died
Saturday.
Services and burial information was incomplete at press time, but services
will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. McGlaun is the son of Nolan County pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. E. H.
McGlaun.
He was a 1922 graduate of Newman High School and was employed by Procter
and Gamble until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three brothers, Jack, Shirley and LeRoy
McGlaun, all formerly of Sweetwater and three children. He was preceded in
death by one brother, Vard, of Borger.
IDA MAE FREE

Ida Mae Free, 78, of Austin and formerly of Sweetwater, died at 3:45 a.m.
Wednesday, July 12 at an Austin Nursing Home.

Rev. Mike Haley officiating. Burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery,
directed by McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Born June 19, 1911 in Waco, she married Haskell Reace Free, July 16, 1927
in Capitola. He died May 18, 1986. She was a member of the Broadway
Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bernie Ray Free of Austin and Donald Joe Free
of Dallas; and 10 grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Carroll Free and a daughter, Lois
Adair.

IRENE CHILDERS FINLEY

County Hospital in Savannah, Tennessee.

Sweetwater Cemetery.
Born March 13, 1904 in Merkel, she was a Methodist and had lived in
Sweetwater 57 years. She moved to California in 1959.
Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Bailey of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons,
Melvin V. Childers of Tucson, Ariz. And John Childers of Savannah,
Tennessee; two nieces, Narville Penton of Trent and Neldia Walker of
Sweetwater; a nephew, Wayne Hutchins of New Mexico; three grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.

Born June 7, 1908 in Barstow, she married Marcas Flores, December 17, 1928
in Roby. She was a housewife and a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church
in Stamford.
Survivors include her husband, Marcos Flores of Stamford; three daughters,
Lucia Frausto of Phoenix, Ariz, Angelita Torres of Ralls and Marcie Camacho
of Sweetwater; two sons, Joe Flores Sr. of Phoenix, Ariz. And Gilbert
Flores of Dallas; a sister, Susana Delgadillo of Edcouch; a brother,
Francisco Garcia of Houston; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and
4 great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Healer Dies Sunday; Rites Slated

The Rev. Alfred Cyrus Healer, 66, retired Baptist minister of 707 Pease St.
here, died at Pecan Grove Nursing Home here at 3:30 p.m. Sunday after a
long illness.
He had been a Baptist minister since 1922 and had served in Nolan, Fisher,
Taylor, Scurry and Mitchell counties. Since his retirement from the
ministry, he had been a carpenter and was teacher of the Men’s Bible Class
of Lamar Street Baptist Church.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lamar Street Baptist Church.
The pastor, the Rev. J.L. Cartrite, will officiate, assisted by the Rev.
Bob Cheek, pastor of Maryneal Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jim Tomlinson,
pastor of Sixth St. Methodist Church.
Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery under direction of Patterson Funeral
Home. Pallbearers will be E.T. Henson, A.E. Lamb of Roscoe, Carl Rountree
of DeLeon, Tom Green, Ira Brock and Lewis Hand.
Mr. Healer was born Jan. 20, 1899, in McLennan County and moved to Nolan
County when he was six years old. The family settled on Plum Creek east of
Sweetwater and in a few years moved to Fisher County. On Nov. 14, 1920, he
was married to Pat Hammond at Roby.
Surviving him are his wife; two sons, F.E. Healer of Sweetwater, and
Thurston Healer of Oakland, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Bob Henthorne of
Abilene and Mrs. N.E. Koch of Bloomfield Hills, Mich; three brothers, Louis
Healer of Roby, Vern Healer of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Lawrence Healer of
Brownwood; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Brady of Abilene; 16 grandchildren.
MRS. FOLMAR SERVICES SET

ROSCOE – Mrs. Bertha Mae Folmar, Nolan County resident for 37 years, died
from an apparent heart attack Sunday. She was stricken ill at her home
here, 606 Broadway, Sunday, and was dead on arrival at Simmons Memorial
Hospital.
Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Roscoe First Baptist
Church. The pastor, the Rev. Lewis Markwood, will officiate, assisted by
the Rev. Cone Merritt of Snyder.
Burial will be in Champion Cemetery under direction of Wells Funeral Home.
Mrs. Folmar was the former Bertha Mae Doyle born Jan. 23, 1889, in Yantis,
and was married there to George Folmar on July 15, 1918. Mr. Folmar died
June 25, 1958.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are a son, Marvin Folmar, of Norwalk, Calif.; three daughters,
Mrs. Nell Diels of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Judy Dawson of Brownwifle, and
Mrs. Lois Brawley of Roscoe; one brother, Jasper Doyle of Loraine; and 12
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Chubby Johnson, J.B. Hunter, Lavoye McBride,

MRS. MATTIE MAE HEALER

Mrs. Mattie Mae (Pat) Healer, 76, of 707 Pease, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday
at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

with the Rev. James Kinsey and the Rev. Orvel Brantley, pastor of Lamar
Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Born May 18, 1904 in Hornhill, she married Alfred Cyrus Healer Nov. 14,
1920 in Roby. They moved to Sweetwater in 1927.
Mrs. Healer was a clerk at Mott’s for 11 years. She was a member of Lamar
Street Baptist Church since 1927. She was a member of The Disabled
American Veterans Auxiliary.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Naomi Koch of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.;
LaJuana Jean Henthorne of Austin; two sons, the Rev. F.E. Healer of
Sweetwater, and Thurston Healer of Danville, Calif.; two brothers, Homer
Elam of Roby and Bill Elam of Dallas; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
MRS. ZELMA M. CARRIGER

COLEMAN – Mrs. Zelma M. Carriger, 65, mother of Walter O. Carriger of
Sweetwater, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday at West Texas Medical Center in
Abilene.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stevens Funeral Home Memorial
Chapel. Paul Hubbard, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Born April 17, 1915 in Alvarado, she moved to Coleman as a child and
attended Coleman schools. She married Walter G. Carriger in 1919 in
Coleman. The couple operated a grocery and convenience store in Brownwood
from 1956 to 1978. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968.
Survivors include two sons, Walter O. of Sweetwater and Frank Dean of
Skidmore; two sisters, Virginia Mitchell of Coleman and Frances Garey of
Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
OBYRON GREEN BLAILOCK

Obyron Green Blailock, 83, of Sweetwater died Sunday at 9:35 a.m. in
Holiday Retirement Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McCoy Chapel of Memories with the
Rev. Jay Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater under the
direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Blailock was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Kaufman County and married Harvey
Blailock on July 17, 1937, in Sweetwater. She was a graduate of Capitola
High School and had lived in Sweetwater and Palava since 1926.
She was a housewife and a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey Blailock of Sweetwater; a son, George
Blailock of Palestine, Texas; three daughters, Velma Doggett of Grapevine,
Pat Hornsberger of Prattsville, Ala.; and Carolyn Kay Tidwell of Sweetwater; a sister, Winnie Mayes of El Paso; two brothers, Ray Green of
Wellington, Kans.; and Alton Green of San Angelo; 11 grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dale Blailock in 1981, and a
granddaughter, Carla Lynn Doggett in 1962.
Pallbearers will be T.L. Dickerson, Paul Brand, B.E. Neeper, Frog
Toland, George Hollowell and Alton (Skeet) McCain.

CHARLES (SONNY) POWELL

Charles (Sonny) Powell, 75, of Sweetwater died Monday in Holiday Retirement
Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lamar Street Baptist Church with the
Rev. Orvel Brantley and the Rev. Keith Clifton officiating. Burial will be
in Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral
Home.
The family will be at 1313 Grand in Sweetwater.
Mr. Powell was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Sweetwater and married Opal Wilson on
Dec. 25, 1949, in Abilene. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II
and worked for Pace Supermaket prior to retiring from American National
Insurance.
He was a charter member of West Side (now Avondale) Baptist Church, where
he served on every committee and taught the Men’s Bible Class. He was
ordained as a deacon in 1956. At the time of his death, he was a member of
Lamar Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth (Coot) Powell of Sweetwater and
Roland R. Powell of Spring; two sisters-in-law, Willa Powell of Sweetwater
and Nancy Powell of Spring; a special cousin, Frances Davis of Sweetwater;
and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Powell on Sept. 16, 1995; an
infant daughter, Rosalind Celeste on May 10, 1956; three brothers, Lonnie
Jim Powell, James Hollis Powell and Auther Don Powell; and a sister, Opal
Inez Cadenhead.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Lamar Street Baptist Church.

DON POWELL, 21, ELECTROCUTED IN FRIDAY MISHAP

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at First Baptist
Church for Don L. Powell, 21, who was electrocuted Friday afternoon on East
Broadway.
The youth, who had been working for Martin Sign Company only a short time,
was in a truck which was backing near a high line on East Broadway while
erecting a new sign at the Vandervoort Creamery and Ice Cream Plant.
Somehow the high line was contacted and Powell was electrocuted when he
grasped a cable. He was dead on arrival at Sweetwater Hospital. The
accident happened about 2:40 p.m.
Powell was a veteran of World War II, having served in the military police
in Germany for 16 months after the war. He was born in Roscoe and was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Powell, who live at 1411 Walnut Street.
The Rev. George R. Wilson, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiated for
the funeral service. Burial was in the Sweetwater Cemetery under the
direction of Wells Funeral Home.
Surviving in addition to the parents are four brothers: Charles, Kenneth,
Jim and Roland Powell, and a sister, Opal Powell, all of Sweetwater.
MRS. CALVERT FOUND DEAD AT HOME

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian
Church in Sweetwater for Mrs. W.C. Calvert, 65, wife of Nolan County’s
second farm agent, who was found dead at her home south of Sweetwater
Wednesday afternoon. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Mr. Calvert was found dead in the same home in December, 1946, and his
death was likewise attributed to a heart attack. Mrs. Calvert was found
about 4:30 by her son, W.D. Calvert. She was lying down and had a
newspaper beside her.
The Calverts moved to Nolan County from Taylor County in 1912, when he was
appointed county agricultural agent. He filled the post until 1926, and
then devoted his time to farming and stock raising.
Surviving are two sons, W.D. of Sweetwater and John of Maryneal; two
brothers, Jack Long of Gladewater, and Gentry Long of Gardenia, Calif.;
five sisters, Lurline and Lucille Long of Dallas, Mrs. Euna Rhodes of
Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. John Eyster of Houston, and Mrs. John Schmidt of
Port Isabel, Texas.
The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Wm. H.
Shropshire, pastor, and burial will be in the Sweetwater Cemetery with Wells Funeral
Home in charge.
FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY FOR L.J. MASHBURN

Louis Jackson Mashburn, 86, retired florist and resident of Sweetwater for
almost half a century, died Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at his home, 1600 Lamar
Street.
A native of Bolivar, Tenn., he was born on July 27, 1862. He moved to
Arkansas as a boy, and in 1884, he and his family came to Texas in a
covered wagon, settling in Ellis County.
In 1889, the Mashburn family moved to Fisher County, settling on Cottonwood
Creek. He operated a store in Roby for a time and came to Sweetwater in
1900. He first operated a dry goods store on the spot now occupied by
Armor Drug
No. 1. In 1920 he opened the Sweetwater Floral Co., which was
sold in 1938 to the Comolli family.
He held a life membership in the Shriners and the Elks, was also a Knight
Templar. He was on the city commission for two years.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ with
Tommy Bonner, assisted by P.D. Neel, officiating. Interment was in the
Sweetwater Cemetery with a Masonic service at the grave. Pallbearers were
Curley Whitten, Dr. A.J. Wimberly, E.E. Roy, E.Q. Daniels, Brack Mitchell
and Demp Kearney. Patterson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his widow, Sweetwater; a daughter, Mrs. Fred D. Morse,
Ft. Worth; a son, E.L. Mashburn, San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
GEORGE W. POWELL

George W. Powell, 79, a resident of Sweetwater since the middle 1930’s,
died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Simmons Memorial Hospital.
Services are pending at Cate-Spencer Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1897, in Van Zandt County.
Survivors include three brothers, Arthur, and Bill both of Odessa and Allen
of Weatherford; one sister, Mrs. R.W. Terry of Odessa and a number of
nephews and nieces.

Services for George W. Powell, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at
Cate- Spencer Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. C.J. Sewell, a retired Baptist minister of Abilene, will
officiate. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery.
Mr. Powell died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Simmons Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of West Side Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Shuler, James Shuler, W.A. Hamilton, Bud Self,
Tommy Craver and Floyd McCormick.

Olga DeLaCruz, 25, of Sweetwater were at 2 p.m. today
at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Loraine.

John Busch
officiated. Burial was in Loraine Cemetery, directed by

Mrs.
DeLaCruz
died Saturday at Root Memorial Hospital.
She
was born May 12, 1951, in Sinton and married Arthur
DeLaCruz Aug., 1973 in Sweetwater.

71, formerly of Sweetwater, died Sunday at his home in
Fredericksburg.

Newsom owned and operated a jewelry store.

was born Ruby Wicker
March 15, 1896 in Joshua and married Ira
Parker March 16, 1912. He died in 1960 and she
married Harry Talmadge
in April 1960. She moved to Hamlin from Dallas in 1960.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors
include a son, Kenneth Parker
of Hamlin; a brother, Elvin
Wicker of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.

– James Eugene Rayburn,
60, of Roscoe, died Tuesday afternoon at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Big Spring.

of Abilene officiating.
Born
June 15, 1915, in Sweetwater, he married Julia
Camille Norris Aug. 26, 1939, in Roscoe. He had
lived in Roscoe 55 years and was retired manager of
Higginbotham-Bartlett Lumber Co. He was a veteran of World
War II.
Survivors
include his wife, a daughter, Elizabeth
Ann Rayburn of Abilene; two sons, Gary
Wayne of Colorado City and James
Troy OF Milton, Fla.; three brothers, Russell

Waco and Douglas of

FOR SAM HOPE, 77, TODAY
Funeral
services are to be held at 5 p.m. today at the Johnston Funeral
home chapel for Sam Hope, 77, who died at 10:35 p.m. Thursday at
the home of his son, Tom. Hope.
He
had been a resident of Sweetwater for 30 years.
Survivors
include a son, Tom Hope, and a daughter, Mrs. Joe Poe, both of
Sweetwater.
The
Rev. George Palmer, pastor of the First Methodist Church is
conducting his services. Burial is to be made in the
Sweetwater cemetery directed by Johnson's.

HOPE RITES SLATED MONDAY
Funeral
services are slated for 4 p.m. Monday at Johnston Funeral Home
Chapel for 55 year-old Tom Hope who died at 10 p.m. Sunday.
Rev.
A.L. Patterson will conduct the services. Burial will be
held in Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of Johnston
Funeral Home.
He
is survived by 3 sons, Oscar Hope living somewhere in New Mexico;
Joe Hope, Seminole, Texas, and James, a member of the U.S.
Army. Three daughters, Mrs. Emily Long, Monahans; Nadene
Hanks, New Mexico and Ethlene Woodward, Seminole, Texas, and a
sister, Mrs. Joe Poe, Sweetwater.
Mr.
Hope had lived in Sweetwater for the past 25 years. His
wife died in 1945.

ILLNESS FATAL TO ODIS APPLE, 57, LONG-TIME RESIDENT
A
short illness claimed the life of Odis L. Apple, 57, in
Sweetwater
Hospital
about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Apple
lived at 411 Canfil and had resided
in Sweetwater 28 years, coming here from
Fannin
County
.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at First
Christian Church. The
pastor, the Rev. Richard Chilton, will officiate.
Interment will be in
Sweetwater
Cemetery
directed by Patterson Funeral Home.
The grave of Mr. Apple will be beside that of his son, Odis L.
Apple, Jr., who died in action during World War II.
Mr. Apple, whose business was real estate for many years, was
born June 27, 1898 in
Hunt
County
. He married Miss
Mable Templeton in
Gober
,
Texas
on August 13, 1921.
Surviving are his wife and sons, Harold G. Apple of Sweetwater, a
Santa Fe
employee, and Vernon Apple of San Diego; a brother, Arthur Apple
of
Odessa
; a sister, Mrs. Lela Baker of Ladonia; and one grandson.

Mable
B. Apple of 411 Cranfill died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday at rolling
Plains Memorial Hospital. She was 85.
Services
will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cate-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. F.E. Healer officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater
Cemetery.
Born in Lewisville, she
moved to Sweetwater 60 years ago.
She was the widow of Odis
Lee Apple.
Survivors include two
sons, Harold apple of Sweetwater and Vernon Apple of San Diego,
Calif.; two sisters, Clemmie Rainey of Ladonia and Gracie
Bessemer of Dallas; and a grandson, Billy Lee Apple of Los
Angeles.
Pallbearers will be Bill
Griggs, Jack Lewis, Bud Lewis, Robert Berry, Kenneth Bonner and
Bill Henson.
