The Sweetwater Reporter November 3, 1962 EX-NOLAN OFFICIAL DIES IN SWEETWATER William Raymond Bishop, 68, former Nolan County official and Sweetwater resident since 1900, died at 1:45 PM at Simmons Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Mr. Bishop formerly served as Nolan County Tax Assessor-Collector for 20 years and was County Commissioner for Precinct 2 for eight years. Funeral will be held at 2 PM Sunday at First Methodist church with the Rev. Preston Barrett, pastor of the First Christian Chruch, officiating. Burial in the Sweetwater Cemetery will be directed by Cate-Spencer Funeral Home. Born July 13, 1894, in Bosque County, he came to Sweetwater with his parents when he was 8 years old in a covered wagon. He married Elizabeth Shivers on December 20, 1936, in Cisco. Mr. Bishop was an elder in the First Christian Church and past Exalted Ruler of the Elk Lodge here. He lived at 805 Silas in Sweetwater. He owned a stock farm just north of Sweetwater in Nolan County. Surviving are his wife; 2 daughters: Mrs. Don Wright of Odessa and Margaret Bishop, a student at Texas Technological College in Lubbock; one sister, Mrs. C.H. Dammann of Sweetwater; and one brother, Perry, of Sweetwater.
