maintenance in the past.

Killgore
was born on July 14, 1935, in Dimmitt. He married Charlene
Riddle on Aug. 14, 1968, in Tahoka. Mr. Killgore
was a lifelong resident of Nolan County and a member of the
Maryneal Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Roscoe High
School and Tech Tech University. Mr. Killgore was a
full-time school teacher and rancher, teaching at Highland
schools for 31 years before retiring.

14, 2005, in his residence.

Mr.
Byrne was born on Feb. 2, 1936, in Brown County. He
married Noma Ware on July
14, 1956, in Sweetwater. Mr. Byrne was a member of
Normady Ave. Church of Christ. He was a truck driver
for Pace Packing and U.S. Gypsum. Mr. Byrne was in the
National Guard for nine and one-half years and lived in
Sweetwater since 1946.
Survivors
include his wife, Noma Byrne of Sweetwater; two
daughters, Jackie Ray of Aransas Pass and Jeneta Layman
and her husband, Loyd, of Bay City; two sons, Jay Byrne
of Spokane, Wash., and Jamey Byrne of Allen; one
sister-in-law, Oma Byrne of Bronte; five grandchildren,
two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and
four step-great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Byrne
and Lola Bell Byrne; and two brothers.

Sweet-water died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, in Lubbock.
Funeral services will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, in the McCoy

Ms. McCoy was born on
Dec. 21, 1963, in Sweetwater. She attended Sweetwater
High School and was a lifelong resident of Sweetwater.
Ms. McCoy was a member of the Mt. Rose Baptist Church.

Olvera was born on Aug. 7, 1907, in Old Mexico. He

Mr. Olvera retired from Walls Industries in 1973 as a
watchman. He owned Olvera Grocery Store and was a World
War II Army veteran. Mr. Olvera was a member of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and lived most
of his life in Sweetwater. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Nolan County
Honor Guard and American G.I. Forum.
Survivors
include one daughter, Petra

Mr.
Millican passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Medical
Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant.
He
was born on June 1, 1914, in Coke County to Charlie
W. and Annie Maud Lamb Millican. After
graduating from high school, he married Blanche
Estell Guthrie on Dec. 27, 1947, in San
Angelo. He worked for many years as a laundry worker
before his retirement. Mr. Millican was a member of the
Trinity Baptist Church in Lubbock, and was a very
social person. He enjoyed playing and watching
basketball among other hobbies. He moved to Johnston
County in July 2004 from Lubbock, so that he would be
near his family who live in this area.
Mr.
Millican was preceded in death by his parents; his wife
on Aug. 31, 1984; and his older sister, Vera
Brodnax.
He
is survived by his twin sisters, Reba
Hipp of Durant, Okla., and Eva
Walls of Denton; and seven nieces and six
nephews.

1962. She was a housewife.
Survivors

Sweetwater; 12 grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 11,
2004; and two sons, Fermin

Joyce
Whaley
left this life on Oct. 16, 2005, in Sweetwater at
the age of 83.
She
was born Oct. 18, 1921, to W.H.
“Willom” Whaley and Aileen Beall Whaley
in Sweetwater. She graduated from Newman High
School and attended the University of Texas from
1938 to 1941. “Pinky” was named Miss
Sweetwater Beauty Revue on July 14, 1938, and Miss
West Texas 1939 by the West Texas Chamber of
Commerce. Her nickname partially derived from her
auburn colored hair. Joyce moved to Clayton, N.M.,
in a first marriage, and lost a son at birth
during World War II. She later worked with
American Airlines as a flight attendant. Joyce
then worked with the American Red Cross in the
U.S. and Japan, leaving that career to care for
her aging parents. She lived in Sweetwater since
that time, becoming a very private person who was
loyal to old friends.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; the infant
son; a stepson, Michael
McElyea; and cousins, George
Dent Beall, Dr. Jimmy Beall and Josephine
Price.
She
is survived by first cousins, Allen
and Don Wright of Abilene, Jane

be no prior visitation as the body was cremated.

Mr.
Bankhead was born January 6, 1926 in Roscoe. On
May 12, 1950, he married Wynona
Mae Eckert. He was a graduate of
Highland High School and was Highland's Voice of
the Hornets for 30 plus years. Mr. Bankhead was a
retired farmer and for 12 years, was Nolan County
Commissioner. In addition, he was a member of
Champion Baptist Church and was a deacon for 56
years. Mr. Bankhead was a member of the Roscoe
Lions Club, a member of the Highland School Board
of Trustees for 17 years, director of Roscoe Co-op
Gin for ten years, a member of the Nolan County
Livestock Association for many years, and served
with the Farm Service Agency for nine years.
Mr.
Bankhead was preceded in death by: two brothers, D.E.
Bankhead and Troy
Bankhead; and two sisters, Latane
McKibben and Neil
Bankhead.
