Certificate
I have been working on some lateral
twigs and branches for the Blackwell area. I found this
Death Certificate.
Name: Rhoda Miller
i.e. Rhoda Riggs Copeland Miller.
She was the mother of Charles Copeland. Her husband, W.D.
Copeland died in the 1870's and she married Alexander Miller
in 1895 and then he expired or returned to Ohio.
Her parents were Thomas Riggs born in North Carolina and
Rhoda Casey born in Alabama.
My mother and her siblings called her "Grandma Miller" as
she lived with Eulah and Charlie Copeland. Granddaddy, (Harvie
Saunders), worked for Charlie Copeland. Grandma Miller died
at the Copeland ranch house which is southwest of Blackwell
in Coke County, but their address was Blackwell, TX.
Her Death Certificate is signed by J.B. Latham, M.D. of
Blackwell, TX (hard to read)
The Undertaker: Farmer's Hardware & Co. in Blackwell which
was then owned by Luther Frost and Louis Horne. She was
buried the day after her death so there was no embalming.
The Cemetery: James Cemetery, which was the first name for
the Blackwell Cemetery. This is the only DC that I have seen
that uses the name of James for our cemetery.
