The main points of the lecture demonstrate how the frontier
of the United States actually started in the East coast colonies of
Virginia and New England. Three centuries and three thousand miles
later the frontier was the West coast (California) as the people traveled
across the continent that became the United States.
The frontier period is generally recognized as ending about 1890 when there was no longer an easily identifiable frontier line. Many maps were used to illustrate the timeframes of expansion, ethnicity of the frontiersmen, and the expansion of the roads, railroads and cattle trails. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
