James Loyd Taylor, 64, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Baylor Hospital
He was born July 25, 1941, in Ennis, the son of Loyd W. and Helen
Randolph Taylor. He was reared in Ennis and was a 1958 graduate of Ennis
High School. On July 20, 1962, he married Janell Spence of Ennis. After
their marriage, they lived in Ennis. He was employed as a parts manager
at Ford Motor Company dealerships for over 40 years. He loved
woodworking and gardening. He was a member of Anthony Drive Baptist
He is survived by his wife, Janell of Ennis; a son and his wife, Kevin
and Melisa Taylor of Ennis; a daughter and her husband, Kim and Chad
Hrnjak of Alma; his father, Loyd Taylor of Ennis; a brother and his
wife, Ricky and Dena Taylor of Corsicana; a sister and her husband,
Sandra and Wayne Turner of Ennis; one grandchild, Taylor Hrnjak; and
numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Taylor in November 2003.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Keever Chapel with the Rev. Eddie
Ricks officiating. Interment will follow at

CORSICANA, Texas. Feb. 26 - Funeral services for Mrs. Adelaide Sears,
Aged 75 years, native of Navarro County and pioneer resident of Blooming
Grove community, who died Tuesday, were held Wednesday. She was
born in the Dresden community and was the wife of the late Tim Sears,
who died many years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Walter
E. Huffstuttler, Blooming Grove; a number of grandchildren and five
brothers. David Pevehouse, Germyn, Jack County; Louis Pevehouse,
Blooming Grove; Will Pevehouse, Blooming Grove; Frank Pevehouse, Frost,
and Walter Pevehouse, Corsicana.
FUNERAL SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY FOR NATIVE OF COUNTY
Funeral services for Mrs. Adelaide Sears, aged 75 years, native of
Navarro county and pioneer resident of Blooming Grove, with
interment in the Cross Roads cemetery. The services were conducted
by C. L. Jones and Rev. W. Z. Corbin.
Mrs. Sears was born in the Dresden community. She was the wife of
the late Tim Sears, who died many years ago.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Walter E. Huffstutler, Blooming
Grove; a number of grandchildren and five brothers, David Pevehouse,
Germyn, Jack county; Louis Pevehouse, Blooming Grove; Will

On April 2, 2006, we lost our beloved wife, mother and friend, Mary
Frances Mitchell Hale. She committed her life to comforting others, whether it was her students or her family. Mary is survived by her
husband, Jimmy Hale; son, Stephen Hale and wife, Amy and her daughter Susan Hale.
The family is celebrating their fond memories of Mary from 6:30 to 9

Joe M. Hodge Jr. was born Sept. 29, 1927, to Joseph Marchbanks Hodge and
Frances Meredith Hodge. He spent his young life in a rural setting
working on the family estate as a farm hand and cowboy. He trained as a
pilot and joined the U.S. Army and became a paratrooper. After the Army,
he married Sarah Francis Davenport and became the father of five
children. After attending North State College he became a teacher of
industrial arts and taught for approximately 30 years in the Arlington
and H.E. B. school districts. Mr. Hodge was also proud of his
accomplishments as a senior designer draftsman at American Airlines and
Mr. Hodge boldly professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and most
recently enjoyed fellowship with Faith Bible Church, He will greatly be
missed by his family and many dear friends.
Survivors include loving children and their spouses, Roger McDonald

Corsicana Emma Laura Harvard, 80, slipped from this world into God’s heavenly
kingdom on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Corsicana, Texas.
Emma was born June 1, 1925 in Littlefield, Texas to Thomas Floyd and Bertha
Pyeatt. the ninth of ten children. She grew up in New Mexico and, responding to
a family medical crisis, moved to Kermit in 1948. She met and later married Sam
Harvard in Kermit on September 8, 1950. There they raised their two daughters
and owned and operated Harvard Construction Company where Emma served as the
bookkeeper for many years. They retired to Corsicana in 1987.

William E. “Snookie Abbe, 72, of Trinidad passed away January 18th, 2006. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21st at the Mankin Assembly of God Church in Trinidad. Burial was at the Trinidad Cemetery
under the direction of the Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff. Pallbearers were Lucas Abbe, Willia Jock, Rodney Prnka, Justin Prnka,
Ricky Progue and Marvin Sanders.
Mr. Abbe was born May 20th, 1933 in Kerens to Farris and Bertie Abbe. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1961 and prior to
retirement he had worked for the Henderson County Precinct #1 as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by a brother; daughter Brenda Kay Abbe, and grandson William Clint Abbe.
Mr. Abbe is survived by wife – esther Ruth Abbe of Trinidad; Son – Billy Abbe and his wife Sharon of Royse City; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great

Melba “Joyce” Norris passed away on January 18th, 2006. Funeral services were held on January 22nd at the Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens, Texas. Her brother-in-law, Audrain Hardin officiated the services.
She was born December 2nd, 1940 in Kerens. Joyce was married to James Norris for 48 years. She spent most of her life in Trinidad where she
raised her children and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, C.C. “Son” and Lillian Collins.
She is survived by her husband, James Norris; daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Joyce Cayce of Longview, Texas; son, Jimmy Norris of
Trinidad, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Vincent and Tanya Norris of Trinidad, Texas. She was the proud Mamaw of ten grandchildren, James
Monroe, Aaron Reimer, Tyler Norris, Miles Norris, Brianna Norris, Dusty Norris, Dakota Norris, Nicholas Estes, Maci Estes and Cameron Norris,
and a great grandson, Cole Monroe. Surviving brothers and sisters, June Trent, Jeanette Hardin, Peggy Taylor, Janice Hethcoat, Tommy Collins and

Hill cemetery in Fort Worth. James was born in Irene, Texas to Clint and Nettie Hollingsworth. He graduated from Frost High School in Frost
and served in the U.S. Army in the European theater during World War II. James owned
and operated several Humble service stations in the Waco area. He later worked for and retired from the Huck Manufacturing Company. He was a
charter member of Central United Methodist Church in Waco. Those who knew James loved him and that love was returned. James was preceded in
death by his parents; baby brother, Joe Dean; and his first wife of 40 years, Doris Marie. He is survived by his loving wife, Vivien;
stepdaughter, Judy Jones of Fort Worth; three stepgrandsons and three step great granddaughters; sister, Sue Jenkins of Italy; two nieces and
numerous cousins. Honorary pallbearers are friends from Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to his

Mrs. Cooper was born on August 20, 1915 in Dawson to W.C. and Mary Arizona Haley and passed away on February 19 in Parkview Regional
Hospital, Mexia. She retired from the Mexia State School as ward attendant and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard B. Cooper in 1993; parents, and brothers, Dee Haley, Clifton Haley and Vermon Haley.

Gelene Roland, 88, of Tool passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Cedar Lake Nursing Home in Malakoff.

She was born Jan. 10, 1918 in Corsicana and was retired from the Corsicana Daily Sun.
She is survived by her uncle, Nelson Roughton of Corsicana.

Graveside services for Geline Bernice Roland were held April 11, 2006,
under the direction of Griffin Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana.
Roland was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Corsicana and died April 8, 2006, at
the Cedar Lake Nursing Home in Malakoff. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Hicks.
She graduated from the University of Texas in 1939 and taught elementary
school in Blooming Grove.
She married Earl Griffin of Corsicana and together they owned and
operated the Allis Chalmers Tractor Company.
After Griffin’s death, she married Orville Roland. She worked for the
Corsicana Daily Sun for several years.
After retirement, they moved to Tool, and were longtime members of the
United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-14.
She was a member of the Home Extension Club, Cedar Creek Literary Club,
Cedar Creek Lake Women’s Club and the Cedar Creek United Methodist
Church in Tool.
Survivors include her uncle, Nelson Roughton; precious “companion,”
Lulu; beloved friend and neighbor Sylvia Knight with gratitude for her
tireless devotion and kindness.

Evelyn (Rogers) Kendall, 70, of Dawson passed away Sunday, April 9,
2006, at a Waco hospital.

Joyce was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Dawson to J.R. and Margie (Holliday)
Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of Dawson where she was
self-employed as an income tax return preparer and also served as the
municipal court clerk. Joyce was an active member of First Baptist
Church in Dawson and was also a committed volunteer for God’s Helping
Hands and the Dawson Ex-Students Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; aunts, Mary Ruth Bennett and
Alpha Holliday; uncle, Carl Holliday; and cousin, Floyd “Buggy” Bennett.

services for Rayfield “Field” Washington, 57, of Henderson, formerly of
Kerens, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 14, at New Bethel Baptist
Church, 101 Elm Flat Road, Kerens, with the Revs. Earnest Betts, Ivory
Washington and Johnny Vanibuls officiating. Burial will be in
Rayfield Washington was born June 28, 1948, in Kerens, Navarro County,
the seventh of 15 children born to Prezell and Lillie Mae Faulks
Washington. He united with New Bethel Baptist Church, Kerens, at an
early age and received his education in the public schools of the
Goodlow community. Rayfield attended Park High School and graduated from
Kerens High School. On Feb. 25, 1967, Rayfield married Judy Ann Starks
and to this union two sons and one daughter were born. He was employed
by Texas Power and Light for 18 years, then transferred to TXU Henderson
Division where he worked for 26 years until his health failed. Rayfield
also worked part time for Farm and Ranchers Supply, Henderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, one
nephew and one niece.
Rayfield Washington departed this life, April 11, 2006, leaving to
cherish his loving, caring, sharing and hilarious memories: his loving
and devoted wife of 39 years, Judy Ann Washington of Henderson; three
children, Carlton Washington (DeAnna) of Longview, Robert Washington of
Arlington, and Tracie Jones (Cedric) of Henderson; his grandchildren
whom he cared for and loved dearly, Brant, Tobias, Teila, Tre, Sydney,
Quincy, AKeria, Robert Jr. and Gabriel, all of Henderson; his brothers,
James Washington (Audrey) and J.T. Washington (Mary), all of San
Antonio, Ross Washington (Christene) and Vernon Washington (Mary), all
of Kerens, David Washington (Ardell) of Corsicana; John Washington
(Mary) of Dallas; Nathaniel Washington (Gayle) of DeSoto, Lewis
Washington (Sheree) of Mansfield, and Ivory Washington of Dallas; two

Corsicana; 16 half-sisters and half-brothers; his mother-in-law, Ora Lee

Virginia Williams, 58, of Corsicana passed away Friday, April 7, 2006,
at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village.
A memorial musical and visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April
14, at Greater Renfro Memorial Church of God in Christ.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Greater Renfro
Memorial COGIC with Assistant Supt. William Lewis Jr. officiating and

Rosie was born Aug. 24,1947, in Corsicana to the parentage of Alice Bell
Williams and Leon Brown. She accepted Christ in her life at an early age
at Renfro Chapel COGIC under the late Pastor P.R. Renfro. Here also she
began her journey as a psalmist at a young age and was known to her
mother and others as the baby girl with a gift. Rosie used her gift of
singing with many groups as the Community Gospel Chorus alongside Bishop
Annell Castille Haney, the Dynamic Duo with Missionary Charlene Johnson,
and later formed her own group, the Celestial Gospel Singers. She then
took her three fruits, Myron, Michelle and Lecretia, her adopted
daughter, Jerreland, and church musician, Paul Lewis, to form the group
known as the Williams Family Gospel Singers. Jesus said to suffer the
little children that come unto me ... that child came to Rosie in the
person of Crystal Lewis and was added to the group. This tradition of
singing was then passed on to her grandchildren, The Williams Phase II.
Her formal education began in the Corsicana schools where Rosie
graduated with honors in the Class of 1965 at G.W. Jackson High School.
Because of other desire to learn, Rosie continued her education by
attending Paul Quinn College which at the present time was in Waco.
There she excelled and was on the dean’s list and became a member of the
Zeta Phi Beta sorority. Later she enrolled at Texas Woman’s University
in Denton, where she was recognized on the dean’s list once again. This
is also where Rosie received her bachelor’s of science in education,
becoming a certified elementary teacher. She substituted and worked in
the Head Start program for a number of years. Rosie was also employed
with the Parenting Education Program under Mrs. Barbara Brown. Until her
health failed, Rosie was a kindergarten teacher at Carroll Elementary
School under Principal Darlene Jackson. Not only was Rosie an educator,
she was also a certified nurse’s aide and seamstress. For many years she
worked with Ross and Johnson Mortuary as receptionist, driver, and
An educator, psalmist, and mother were not the only titles that Rosie
carried because she was an ordained and licensed evangelist in the
Churches of God in Christ. She faithfully served in the Corsicana
District churches as usher board president, holiday revival choir
president, and a member of the evangelistic team.
Evangelist Rosie Williams was preceded in death by her mother, Alice
Bell Williams; father, Leon Brown; brothers, John F. Williams, Sr.,
George W. Williams, Jimmy D. Williams, and Lewis Williams; and grandson,
Myron L. Williams Jr.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Myron Sr. and Kimberley
Williams of Trinidad; two daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle and Henry
Jackson and Lecretia Williams all of Corsicana; an adopted daughter and
son-in-law, Jerreland and Brian Hailey of Corsicana; eight
grandchildren, VirliCia Collins, Montrell Williams, Hene’Icia’ Jackson,

Trilla Mae English, 90, of Hubbard passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006,
at a Waco hospital.

Trilla Mae was born Dec. 5, 1915, in Hubbard to William T. and Martha
Frances (Smith) Aston. She lived most of her life in Hubbard and was a
graduate of Hubbard High School. She also lived in Corpus Christi for 10
years where she and her late husband, Albert Eugene English, operated a
hardware and toy business. Trilla Mae also owned and operated a grocery
business with her husband in Hubbard. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church of Hubbard and was active and interested in civic
affairs and the historical society. She loved flowers and playing bridge
and enjoyed the Monday morning coffee group and the Hubbard Methodist
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert English in
1965; and her son-in-law, Bill Amonette in 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Amonette of Hubbard;
granddaughters, Lesa Nowlin and husband Ronnie of Bynum and Laura A.
Saucke and husband Mike of Hubbard; great-granddaughters, Taylor and
Diane Nowlin and Hannah and Kate Saucke; several nieces and nephews and
many, many friends.
