Bea Myers, 70, of Purdon, TX, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on March 12, 2003. She was born Ouida Beatrice Vander Linden to Paul G. Vander Linden Sr. and Beatrice Lillian
Murrin Vander Linden, in Billings, MT, July 11, 1932. Mrs. Myers graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and was a veteran of the
United States Army. She married Aubrey G. Myers in Dallas in June of 1970. They had no children; however, they took in numerous teenagers
giving them shelter, food and affection off and on for years. Mrs. Myers took in stray and abandoned dogs and at one time bred Pomeranians. She
was referred to as the "Dog Lady of Purdon." She cared for injured and maimed dogs that she found and/or were dumped at her house. She spent
her entire monthly disability/retirement check on the care and feeding of her animals, many of which she found homes for through a local radio station.
Mrs. Myers never met a stranger. She loved to talk and laugh with anyone. She suffered poor health for the last twenty years, but never flagged in her love for God, her family and friends or
her animals. She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece. She is survived by her loving husband Aubrey Myers, her beloved brother Paul G. Vander Linden Jr. and his wife Betty of Longview, and her devoted
sister Lois Chapman (aka Pooch, Duke, Drip) of Denton. Also, 4 nieces, 1 nephew, several great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles and
cousins. She will be greatly missed; but, praise the Lord, she is at peace at last. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to any
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Interment Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Fred Baylos Branam, 71, of Blooming Grove passed away Friday, March 14, 2003 at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Services will be 3 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with Bro. Grady Cashion and Bro. Brian Upchurch officiating. Interment will follow at
Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Beets, Randy Beets, David Hall, Randy Norton, Billy Branam and Robert Beckham.
Mr. Branam was born to Fred Baylos Branam and Leona Hobbs Branam. He moved to Blooming Grove in 1968, coming from Lancaster. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blooming
Grove. He retired as a supervisor from Lone Star Gas Company, Dallas. He served with the United States Army in Korea. He was a lifetime member of
the VFW Post No. 3366 in Corsicana.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Ray Branam in 1990 and Bradley Joe Branam in 1998.
Mr. Branam is survived by his wife, Laverne Branam of Blooming Grove; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Tom Richardson of Corsicana; grandchildren, Holly and Josh Hollingsworth,
Jad Branam, and Kyle Richardson; brothers, R.L. "Pete" Branam of Blooming Grove and Billy Branam of Payne Springs; sisters, Estelle

Friday, March 14, 2003 in Corsicana.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Corley Funeral
Chapel with Dr. Mark Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Messenger was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.

twin brother, Lloyd Messenger of Montego, Calif.; brothers, Ralph Messenger of Lubbock, Johnny Messenger of Houston, and Roy Messenger of
Amarillo; sister, Rosalie Carter of Albuquerque, N.M. and Nancy Noggler of Shell Lake, Wisc.; grandsons and wives, Michael Antony Kelly Jr. and
Jessica of Gatesville, Paul Andrew Kelly of Flower Mound, Joseph Peery and Stephanie Kelly of Arlington, and Cody Winchester of Parker; and
granddaughters, Monica Ann Kelly and Katherine Ruth Kelly, both of Flower Mound.

ODESSA — Memorial services for Lurene Varnell, 88, of Odessa will be at
2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Heggemeier officiating.
Mrs. Varnell died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. She
was born July 29, 1911, in Joshua.
Mrs. Varnell was a teacher for the Ector County Independent School District for many years. She received her B.S. in Education from North
Texas State University. She was a member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a
member of the Wesley Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. "Tracey" Varnell in

ODESSA - William Tracy Varnell, 86, died Friday, October 21, 1994, at Medical Center Hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 24, 1994, at the First United Methodist Church in Odessa. Funeral arrangements by
Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Trace was born December 8, 1907, in Barry. He married Lurene McAfee
in 1933, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage October 12, 1994.
He was a graduate of Trinity University with a degree in Business
Administration and Economics. He also held a masters degree in Administrative Education from North Texas University.
a successful businessman before entering a coaching career at Ganado. From Granado, he went to Kermit as a business administrator. He
became principal at Kermit High School where he stayed until 1955 when he moved to Odessa. He was principal at Austin Elementry from 1958
to 1971 when he retired.
Tracy was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a teacher for the Wesley Class.
He was a 66 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Lions Club.
Tracy is survived by his beloved wife, Lurene; his brother, Robert Varnell of Omaha, Neb.; and a host of friends and other relatives.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Mrs. Annie Laura Collins, 96, Passes Away in Groesbeck, Nov. 11
Mrs Annie Laura Collins, 96, of Park Plaza Nursing home in
Groesbeck passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 11, 1978 at 10:15 a. m. Mrs. Collins had not been very ill--she just went home to be with her
Mrs. Collins was born on June 30, 1882 in Mississippi. She was married to Floyd Amos Collins (in Navarro County, Tx. on Aug. 1, 1902)
and they were the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Willie E. Nicholson who now resides in Kosse. Floyd passed away in 1918. Mrs. Collins helped
raise 8 nieces and nephews belonging to her brother when their mother passed away. In 1929 she married again, to Tom N. Collins, brother to
Floyd. They were married until 1956 when Tom passed away.
Mrs. Collins had lived with her daughter since that time until 2
years ago when she was placed in the nursing home. She was a terrific lady and we'll miss her.
Other survivors besides her daughter are her granddaughter, Mrs.
Floy A. Sullivan, Kosse; great-grandchildren, Mrs. Anna Penny, Kosse; Mrs. Barbara King, Big Spring; Mrs. Sherry Phillips, Kosse; John
Sullivan, Corsicana; Debbey Sullivan and Jo Sullivan of Kosse, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Willie Edna (Collins) Nicholson

Willie Nicholson Funeral Services Held Saturday Willie Edna Collins Nicholson, maternal
grandmother to a number of Kosse residents, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 23, in the South Limestone Hospital in Groesbeck. Mrs.
Nicholson has not been well for the past three months. Mrs. Nicholson, 82, was born November 17,
1903. A native of Cryer Creek, Texas she married John Alber Nicholson on March 9, 1922 and they lived most of their lives around Navarro
County. She moved to Kosse in 1975. Mr. Nicholson preceded his wife in death in 1962. She was also preceded in death by her only child,
Floy Anna Nicholson Sullivan, in January of 1980.
Mrs. Nicholson was a member of the First
United Methodist Church of Kosse.
Mrs. Nicholson is survived by five
granddaughters and their husbands, James and Anna Penny, Macon and Sherry Phillips, Marty and Debbey Pringle, Randy and Jo Roach, all of
Kosse, John David and Barbara King of Big Spring; a grandson and wife, John and Peggy Sullivan of Corsicana and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, November 24, at Corley's Funeral Home in Corsicana with Rev. John
David King officiating, with interment at Pattison Cemetery. Emhouse, Texas. Pallbearers were her grandsons-in-law, James Penny, Macon
Phillips, Marty Pringle, Randy Roach, and two of her great grandsons, Mike and Jimmy Penny
