William Cordis Abbe

William Cordis Abbe, 90, of Corsicana passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2000 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. B. F. Risinger and Brother Bill Honea officiating. Interment will be held at Prairie Point Cemetery.

Mr. Abbe was born Dec. 5, 1909 in Bazette. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener, and loved to raise bees. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Osa Emory and Nora Crocker Abbe; brothers, Farris Abbe and Ted Abbe; and sister, Flora Abbe Connell.

Mr. Abbe is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ruby M. Abbe of Corsicana; daughters and sons-in-law, Ethelene and Odie Stewart of Corsicana and Billie and Alton Taylor of Cedar Mountain, N.C.; brother, Jack Abbe of Corsicana; grandsons and their wives, Tim and Debbie Gorden of Carrollton, James and Joie Taylor of Greenville, S.C., and Kevin and Donna Taylor of South Carolina; granddaughters and their husbands, Teresa King of Austin, Susan and P. R. Rahn of Greenville, S.C., and Randy and Alan Wilson of Corsicana; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Alice Abbott,90, of Groesbeck passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001 at Groesbeck Hospital.

Services are pending.

Mrs. Abbott was born May 30, 1911 in Navarro County to Walter and Ella Bryson Minze. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son, George Abbott of Lewisville; daughters, Shirley McRae of Donie and Hazel Laymance of Waco; brothers, Alton Minze of Amarillo and Gwyndle Minze of Corsicana; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Daisy May Abernathy, 89, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, May 6, 1999 in Corsicana.

Services will be 10: a.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel, with Russell Banks, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Akers, Charles Henry, Jimmy Mash, Jack Pillans, Gene Robinson and Alfred Dickey.

Mrs. Abernathy was born June 10, 1909 in Dublin. She was a member of North Beaton Church of Christ and Eastern Star.

Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Abernathy; sister Faye Raborn; brothers, Henry Welch, Frank Welch and Bryan Welch; and granddaughter, Sandie Price.

Mrs. Abernathy is survived by her daughter, Juanita Faye Marshall of Corsicana; Billye Ruth Murray of Pursley; brother, Eddie Welch of Dublin; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Estelle (Praytor) Adams

Estelle Adams, 77, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001 in Corsicana.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Caraway and the Rev. Wayne Mahoney officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Adams was born Aug. 26, 1924 in Rockdale. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church. She worked at Haggar Slacks Company for 18 years, and owned and operated Adams Grocery Store 15 years in Eureka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Adams; parents, Jim and Lillie Praytor; brother, Arthur Praytor; and sisters, Alta Rae Pickett, Marie Wright and two younger sisters.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jessie and Miriam Praytor of Kerens; sisters, Alsie Mae Belton of Teague, Bettie Jo Franks of Corsicana and Lela Howard of Mesquite; granddaughter, Lisa Ann Nise of Fort Worth; cousin, Laura Jo Griggs of Corsicana; friends, Bruce and Polly Maines of Carthage, Elmo and Juanita Gueary of Eureka, Bill and Vivian Lowe of Plano and Joan McClendon of Corsicana; and several nieces and nephews.

James Benjamin Adkins

J. B.ADKINS DIES TUESDAY NIGHT, RITES THURSDAY
J. B. Adkins, 81, retired Purdon farmer and real estate operator died in the Navarro Clinic late Tuesday Night.

Funeral Services will be held from the First Baptist Church in Purdon, Thursday at 2:30 PM. Burial will be in the Dresden Cemetery.

The rites will be conducted by Rev. Chester Reames, pastor of the church.

A native of Arkansas, Adkins had resided in the Purdon community for 58 years. He was formerly prominent in politcal and other circles and was the precinct chairman and election judge at Purdon for many years.

Surviving are a son, N. L. Adkins of Purdon; seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Boldin, Haddix Boldin, W.H. McGraw, Autry French, T. L. Rogers, and C. E. Thomas, Jr.

Corley will direct.

Alfred Auther Adler, 79, of Frost, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Kolb officiating. Interment will follow at Frost Cemetery.

Mr. Adler was born Dec. 11, 1920 in Malone to Edward and Alvina Adler. He worked as a foreman for Lubrizol Chemical Company. He served in World War II in the Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Adler, and his sister, Victoria Huse.

Mr. Adler is survived by wife, Gladys Adler of Frost; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jackie Adler of Waco; brother, Erwin Adler of Bynum; sisters, Erna Duretta of Nacogdoches, Ruth Schronk of Hewitt, Ester Bunn of San Angelo, Lillie Kelly of Amarillo and Gertrude Chadler of Houston; sister-in-law Nita Adler of Hillsboro; granddaughters Keri Adler of Waco and Shari and husband Rodney Castilleja of Waco; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Aguirre was born March 23, 1941.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gregorio Ortiz and Teresa Villa.

Opal Marie Ainsworth, 87, of Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Corley Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Teri Hildebrand officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends of the family will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Ainsworth was born Dec. 23, 1913 in Kaufman County to Joe and Virginia Shivers, and moved to Navarro County in 1919. In 1933, she married W. D. "Dub" Ainsworth. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990.

Mrs. Ainsworth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Boyce Ross of Austin; sister, Mary Sue Sparkman of Corsicana; grandsons and their wives, Curtis and Kathy Ross and Travis and Janet Ross; great-granddaughters, Anna Jones and Hollie Jones; and great-grandson, Jared Jones, all of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mattie Albritton, 94, of Jackson, Miss. passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001 at Central Mississippi Medical Center.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Kerens with Rev. Wes Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Bazette Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jarrell Colvin, Johnny McClure, Rick Lancaster and Bobby McQuary.

Ms. Albritton was born June 7, 1907 in Houston, Miss. and a long-time resident of Kerens. She retired as a dietary manager for the Texas School System. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kerens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. T. Albritton and son, Boyce Albritton.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Sharon Albritton of Jackson, Miss.; Sherry and Liz Albritton of Richmand; two brothers, Herman McQuary of Kerens and Grady McQuary of Trinidad; sister Desma Layfield of Powell; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret L. Aldrich

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Margaret L. Aldrich, 71, formerly of Abilene, died Monday at her home after a long illness.

Services will be private in New London, Mo.

Mrs. Aldrich was born in Corsicana, Texas, and formerly lived in Missouri. She was the widow of Lyndall P. Aldrich.

Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Ferguson and Patty Seaton, both of Tucson; two sons, Dick Aldrich of Panama and Ray Aldrich of Minnesota; one sister, Billie Joyce East of Texas; one half-brother and five half-sisters; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice Family Care, Catalina United Methodist Church or a favorite charity.

Mrs. Allan was born Aug. 19, 1923 in Chicago, Ill. to Joseph and Alma Schwake Leach.

LOVINGTON, N.M. Services for Fred James Allen, 75, of Lovington will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike McGuire and Stan Blevins officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.

He died on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1925, in Corsicana. He married Bobbye Elaine Wright on Jan. 19, 1947, in Hobbs, N.M. He was a member of Jackson Avenue Baptist Church, the American Legion and was a Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Hobbs; a daughter, Sandra Boatright of Lubbock; a brother, Herbie Jr. of Hobbs; a sister, Helen Rugg of Sterling, Mass.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

ALLEN, KATHRYN H., 76 passed away on June 14 at a Corsicana hospital. A native of that city, Ms. Allen was one of 9 children born to R. I. Harris, Sr. and Frances Thomas. She graduated from Corsicana High School and worked in Civil Service WWII. She married Charles Allen, now deceased; their two children are Jim Allen of Dallas and Charline Williams of New York City. Ms. Allen’s grandchildren are Austin James Allen, Hunter Marshall Allen and Kelly Wren Allen. Services will be Friday, June 16 at 1:30 p.m., graveside at Campbell-Elron (sic) Cemetery in Corsicana. Respects may be paid at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana, and donations made to SPCA of Texas.

Mrs. Alt was born July 31, 1916 in Chicago. She was a retired beautician.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Alt.

Charles T. Ammons, 66, of Lake Charles, La., passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in a Houston hospital.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at First united Methodist Church in Corsicana with the Rev. Jimmy Finley officiating.

A native of Corsicana, Mr. Ammons had lived in Lake Charles for many years. He retired from Conoco Oil Company as an oil and gas drilling supervisor after a career spent working in remote locations such as the North Sea, Africa, and Russia.

Mr. Ammons was a Methodist and was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ammons of Lake Charles; sons, Charles Terrell Ammons of Houston, Conred Byers Ammons of Southlake, Chelton Twain Ammons of North Richland Hills and Ricky Joe Titus of Lake Charles; daughter, Ronda Spencer of Lake Charles; seven grandchildren and brother, Dr. William F. Ammons of Seattle.

Ratliff Boon Anderson, a 4th generation Texan, passed away 30 Nov 1952 at a nursing home in Corsicana. Boon Anderson was born 1864 in McLennan Co TX and moved to Winkler in 1868 with his parents William English Anderson and Hannah [English], sisters Myra Elizabeth "Bettie", Cora Ellizan, and brothers Bailey Hampton and William Hazard Anderson. Boon Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, his wife the former Delia [Epps], his 2 brothers, and his sister Mrs Cora (Eugene L. Nunnelee). He is survived by his sister Mrs Bettie (Charles W.) Gregory of Tyler and a great niece Mrs Annie Marie Hestor of Streetman. Burial will be in St Elmo Cemetery near Winkler where his parents and 2 brothers are also buried.

HOBBS, N.M. (Special) - Services for May Belle Anderson, 90, of Hobbs will be at 2 p.m. today in Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Eli Borden, minister, officiating.

Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

She died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 1, 1907, in McMinnville, Tenn. She married John Lewis Anderson on Feb. 19, 1929, in Corsicana. He died in 1986. She moved to Hobbs from Tyler in 1976. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Johnnie Louise Clements of Hobbs; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until services today.

Grady Green Anderson Sr., 89, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000 at Mel-Haven Convalescent Center.

Wake services will be 7 p.m. today at Ross and Johnson Chapel.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church, 104 E. 20th Ave., Corsicana with the Rev. Grady Green Anderson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Silent Grove Cemetery in Cheneyboro.

Pallbearers will be Grady Anderson III, Anthony Anderson, Ishmael Anderson, James J. Lamb, John J. Lamb, Tyrone Bonner and James Gross. Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Bonner, Wilma Haynes, Richard Anderson, Charles Anderson, Joe Randell and Jack Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was born Feb. 20, 1911 in Winkler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora Anderson; six brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose Anna Anderson of Corsicana; sons, the Rev. Grady Green Anderson Jr. and wife Carolyn and Tommy Anderson; daughters, Rosella Barnes and husband Bruce, Gloria A. Williams, all of Fort Worth, Ruth H. Combs and husband Tony of Arlington, and Elizabeth Lamb and husband James of Duncanville; brother, Richard Anderson and wife Evangeline of Corsicana; sister-in-law, Etta Mae Anderson of Streetman; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Carl M. Anderson

" Corsicana Engineer, Carl Anderson, Dies. Corsicana, Texas, May 25. Funeral services for Carl M. Anderson, 47, a well-known Corsicana engineer, who died Saturday night were held in Oil City, a., Tuesday afternoon. At the time of his death he was director of engineering for the Dresser Industries, Cleveland, Ohio, but maintained his home here. He formerly was engineer for the American Well and Prospecting Company before the local firm was purchased by Bethelem.

"Surviving are his wife of Corsicana; two daughters, Mrs. Billie Reagan, Waco, and Carole Anderson, Corsicana; mother, Mrs. A. Martin Anderson, Oil City, Pa.; three brothers and a sister."

Services for Hamilton Eugene Anderson Jr., 90, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul Jantzen of Trinity Church officiating.

Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

Anderson died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, in St. Mary Hospital.

He was born Aug. 18, 1907, in Navarro County. He moved to Lubbock from Plainview in 1937. He married Julia J. Trimble on Dec. 14, 1928, in Quanah. She died May 2, 1994. He attended Trinity Church.

He worked for C.D. Shamburger as a yard foreman until retiring.

Survivors include two sons, Marlin and Danny, both of Lubbock; two daughters, Wanda Jean McAlister of Katy and Barbara McRee of Lubbock; a brother, Tommy Anderson of Austin; a sister, Ella Wilson of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Olen C. Andrews, 77, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Wichita Falls.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oak Wood Cemetery in Corsicana, Texas, with Nickey Andrews officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.

Mr. Andrews was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include two sons, Richard of Wichita Falls and Olen C. Jr. of Georgia; two daughters, Sherry Jane Steinway of Smyrna, Ga., and Christine of Lake Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Norman A. "Andy" Andrews, 77, of Corsicana, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 in Corsicana.

Mr. Andrews, formerly of Kilgore, was born on Dec. 26, 1922 to Dewey and Graham Andrews in Truby. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1940 and attended North Texas State Teachers College at Denton. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in the South Pacific and Korea. He was retired from Harlison-Fischer in Kilgore.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theo Andrews of Corsicana; great-nephew, Jimmy and Carmen Griffith of Bedford; great-great niece, Jenna Griffith of Bedford; niece, Linda L. and Cliff Griffith of North Richland Hills and great-niece, Jennifer Griffith of Austin.

Ralph Walter Antill, 81, of Corsicana passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001 in Corsicana.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Pentecostal Church of God with Dr. Gary W. Johnson and the Rev. Michael Bedard officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Antill was born March 26, 1919 in Bellaire, Ohio. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church of God in Corsicana. He worked as a machinist for Bethlehem Steel until its closing and then worked for Mapco Steel in Fort Worth until he retired in 1984. He was a veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry and Ina Rose Antill; brothers, Bennie Antill, Robert Antill, Russell Antill; son, Willie David Whitaker; father-in-law, W.S. Schomerus.

Mr. Antill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Schomerus Antill of Corsicana; daughter, Virginia Ward of Athens; daughter-in-law, Hilla Whitaker of West Hills, Calif.; brother, Cloyd W. Antill of Cleveland, Ohio; brother-in-law, W.D. "Bill" Schomerus of Quinlan; sister, Mabel B. William Harvey Armstrong

William Harvey Armstrong, 81, died at a Corsicana hospital April 19, 2001. Mr. Armstrong moved to Log Cabin in 1994 from Waco. He was born to Floyd Eugene and Gracie Trummer Isgett Armstrong on February 4, 1920 in Brownsboro. He spent two years in the Army during WW II, where he guarded prisoners (POWs) in Alaska and San Antonio. He married Joyce Louise Bodie December 6, 1946 in Bellmead, Texas. Before the war, Mr. Armstrong spent two years in the Conservation Corps (CCC). He was a 54-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Blooming Grove. Mr. Armstrong worked as a carpenter at Certainteed Company for 32 years, retiring in 1982.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Waco Memorial Park at 2 p.m. The Masonic Lodge gave rites at the cemetery. Visitation was Friday, April 20, 2001, at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.

Survivors include wife of 54 years, Joyce Louise Armstrong of Log Cabin; children and spouses, Jerry Don and Branda Kay Armstrong of Waco, and Brenda Joyce and Larry Sexton of Athens; grandchildren, Jeff David Sexton of Waco, Kenneth Daniel Sexton of Waco; step-grandchildren, Tammy Jackson of Waco, Michael Jackson of Temple; three great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Waymon Armstrong of Dallas, Ellis Armstrong of Fairbanks, Ak., Truman Armstrong of Blooming Grove.

GRANBURY -- Alvin Ray "Bubba" Athey, age 64, U.S.M.C. (ret.), passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2000, at a Fort Worth hospital. Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury.

Mr. Athey was born June 9, 1936, in Conroe, and was raised in the Corsicana State Home. He proudly and honorably served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. He had lived in Granbury since 1990.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities there. She was a past president of the Pan American Round Table and a top-notch 42 player.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Duke Atkinson in 1954.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Elaine Atkinson of Lubbock, Rita Faye and William Barnes of Nevada, Texas, and Mary Evelyn and Randy Whitener of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jerry Lee and Celeste Barnes of Shady Shores, Toni Deliese and Selwyn Smith of Bryan, Linda Kay Barnes, Billy Don Barnes, and Robert Barnes; great-granddaughter, Christine and Randy Tyykila; and great-great-granddaughters Myriam and Crystal Tyykila of Corsicana.

Herschell Baker

Herschell Baker, 78, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 in Corsicana.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Corley Funeral Chapel with Dr. Gary W. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Baker was a lifelong resident of Navarro County. He was born in Purdon on Nov. 19, 1922. He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. Mr. Baker served as a Norton bomb site mechanic in England and France. During the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, Mr. Baker was rushed to the front lines where he served as an infantryman until the end of the war. After the war, he re-enlisted in the Army and served his country with distinction for 30 years obtaining the rank of first sergeant in the Army Engineers. First Sgt. Baker was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, Korean War Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Wounded twice in battle, First Sgt. Baker was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Medal for valor. A devoted father and husband, Herschell and his wife Yoko were married at the American Embassy in Tokyo in 1956 and had a wonderful marriage of 46 years. He fought valiantly for his life, but in the end passed away dignity and grace.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Rutherford; son, Steven J. Baker; and sister, Alice Niedringhaus.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Yoko Baker of Corsicana; sons, Clovis of Frost and Michael of Corsicana; daughter, Deborah of Corsicana; brothers, Otto Baker of Corsicana, David Rutherford of Corsicana, John Rutherford of Kerens and James Rutherford of Dallas; sisters, Joyce Disotell of Athens and Effie Juanity Glasgow of Corsicana; grandchildren, Jason, Paula, Kyna, Colton and Erica; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Crystal; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Baker was born March 19, 1948 in Seminole. He was the vice president of National Incinerator of Corsicana and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Baker was born in Corsicana. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was the widower of Gladys Burnham, whom he married in Anson in 1945. He was a farmer and had lived in Stamford since 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Wylie Baker, Billy Baker and Danny Baker; and eight grandchildren.

Jewell Raley Ballew was born Nov. 18, 1908, in Spring Hill. She was a member of the former Beacon Baptist Church. She retired after 25 years with General Dynamics, beginning in World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter" and later in electronics assembly. She was a longtime homemaker and lover of gardening. Her greatest joy was her family, who called her "Mama Blue."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Samuel Ballew.

Mrs. Bankhead was born Oct. 30, 1908 in Falls County. She married L. C. Bankhead in 1927. She was a longtime teacher, teaching first grade in Deer Park for many years and ending her career at Bowie Elementary in Corsicana. The joys of her life consisted of many friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As her high school year book from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur described her, "She was always on the mountain tops, never in the valleys."

She was preceded in death by her husband six years ago; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Travis Raiford; one brother and one sister.

Charles C. Barnaby, Jr.

Charles Barnaby, 84, of Corsicana passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001 at Navarro Regional Hospital.

Services were held Monday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home with the Rev. B.F. Risinger and the Rev. Edward Baggett officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Humbert, Richard Parker, Tom Peterson, Tom Adams, Travis Coe, Joe Ward and Stephen Shwarts.

Mr. Barnaby graduated from Corsicana High School and went to work with the Agriculture Adjustment Administration of the United States. In 1942, he became chief air controller for air activities of Texas, a primary U.S. Air Force Flight Training Center located in Corsicana.

In 1945 after the war, Mr. Barnaby went to work for the Corsicana Cotton Mill as a cotton classer and buyer. It was during his "cotton mill days" that he began his work with families and children. The Cotton Mill parties he organized on behalf of the cotton mill children are still fondly remembered throughout the community. During those years, Mr. Barnaby worked closely with the Navarro County Fair and Rodeo association, which included designing and building floats for parades. After the mill closed, he went to work for KAND as advertising sales manager.

As a third-generation resident of Corsicana, Mr. Barnaby was involved in a myriad of community organizations and projects which included: The Navarro County Extension Committee on Health and Aging; American Red Cross Board of Directors, served as chairman for three terms; American Heart Association Board where he helped organize the walkathon fund-raiser and the "Just Say No To Drugs" project.

Mr. Barnaby was a longtime member of the Corsicana Noon Lions Club and was named "Lion of the Year" in 1984. He served as president in 1988. Mr. Barnaby was instrumental in obtaining glasses for children whose families could not afford to buy them. He also collected money for the lions Club White Cane Project which contributes to the Eye Bank at Scott and White Hospital.

Mr. Barnaby served numerous years as a volunteer at the Corsicana State Home. He sponsored birthday parties, tutored students at the campus school, coordinated finding youth community jobs. He also organized a special Christmas Eve event for the students.

In 1984, Mr. Barnaby received the Statewide Texas Youth Commission award as Outstanding Volunteer.

In 1989, Mr. Barnaby received the Outstanding Older Adult in Navarro County award. The love and loyalty he displayed for "his city" will be felt for years to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Marie Barnaby; and his sister, Mrs. Maxine Caskey.

Mr. Barnaby is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Yevonne Bunch of Corsicana; niece Kendra Bunch of Irving; and nephew Bob Bunch and wife Pat and son Bill of Houston.

Glen N. Barnes, 67, of Springtown passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2000 at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at White's Funeral Home in Springtown.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at White's Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Springtown Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born Nov. 2, 1933 in Corsicana. He retired from State Farm Insurance Co. after 30 years. He was a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Barnes; his father-in-law; and his parents.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jocelyn Barnes of Springtown; son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Pamela Barnes of Lincoln, Neb.; son, Michael Barnes of Springtown; grandchildren Zane, Allyson and Jordan Barnes; and mother-in-law Anita Welch of Springtown.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Young officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Hampton, Va. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Corsicana Writers Club and was a board member for the Navarro Council of the Arts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Barnes; father, Lloyd B. Barnes; mother, Lottie M. Barnes; brothers, Richard E. Barnes and William C. Barnes; and sister, Jane Sparks.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his stepsons, Bruce Benson, John Benson and Tony Benson; brothers, George Barnes of Yorktown, Va. and Joseph Barnes of Williamsburg, Va.; sisters, Mary Lackey of Lake, Mich. and Margaret Marquis of Tulsa, Okla.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

FLOYDADA (Special) Graveside services for Lucille Barnes, 74, of Floydada will be at 3 p.m. today at Floydada Cemetery with the Rev. J. Dean McNamara, chaplain of Vista Care Hospice of Plainview, officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Floydada.

She died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Floydada Rehabilitation and Care Center.

She was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Floyd County. She attended schools in Hillcrest and Fairview. She married Wilford Barnes on April 5, 1951, in Corsicana.

She retired as a beauty operator in 1997. She moved to Floydada from Longview in 1997. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Wendell Graham of Floydada and Morris Graham of Lake Brownwood; and three sisters, Dolly Emert, Irene Boutwell and Carmen Starkey, all of Floydada.

HUBBARD -- Etta Mae Hall Barrington, a native of Hubbard, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at a Corsicana hospital.

Funeral: 3 p.m. Sunday at Wade Funeral Home Chapel in Hubbard. Burial: Fairview Cemetery.

Etta Mae Hall Barrington was born May 13, 1914, the daughter of the late Eddie Hall and Etta Emmons of Hubbard. She was baptized in the Dover Methodist Church at the age of 13. She later joined the First United Church of Hubbard. She was a resident of Fort Worth 40 years, where she was a former employee of Vance Godby's and also worked for Fort Worth National Bank for many years.

In 1951, Etta Mae married D. P. Oliver, who preceded her in death in 1963. In 1971, she married Clyde Barrington, who also preceded her in death, March 16, 1998.
Etta Mae was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star more than 50 years.
Survivors: Brother, Royce Hall of Hubbard; several nieces and nephews, including nephews, Dean Swan of Palestine, Reginald Swan of Burleson, and Ronnie Hall of Azle.

Blanche L. Barron, 81, of Corsicana went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000.

Mrs. Barron was born March 4, 1919 in Waxahachie, the only daughter of Andrew and Gertrude Potts. She worked at the Cotton Mill prior to 1951 when her family moved to Houston where she was employed in banking for 25 years. She retired in 1978 and returned to Corsicana where she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as assistant treasurer. She loved the Lord, her church and church family.

She took pride in her home and garden and loved to have her family around her. She loved to read, crochet and work crossword puzzles. She never met a stranger and was loved by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Barron is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clifton M. Barron of Corsicana; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Brenda Barron and Andrew and Sharlene Barron, all of Corsicana; daughter, Carol Ann Gilpin of Corsicana; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Major Lee Barron, 92, of Malakoff passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. today at New Hope Corinth CME Church, State Highway 31, Malakoff, with the Rev. Norris D. Curry as eulogist. Interment will follow at Cross Roads Community Cemetery in Cross Roads.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Barron, Earl Chambers III, Jesse Barron and Keith Brown.

Mr. Barron was born Aug. 29, 1908 in Cross Roads. He was a faithful member of New Hope Corinth CME Church where he served as steward and superintendent of Sunday School until his health failed. He was a World War II veteran and also served as president of Cross Roads Community Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Hattie Barron; three brothers and one sister.

WEATHERFORD -- Ozie H. Barry, 74, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at a Fort Worth hospital.

Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephens Catholic Church. The Rev. Liam Sweeney officiated. Burial: Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Weatherford.

Ozie H. Barry was born in Streetman on July 24, 1926. She attended school in Wortham and moved to Wink where she graduated from Wink High School in 1944. She married Hugh Barry on Oct. 23, 1944. She was a former longtime resident of Kermit and Midland and had resided in Weatherford for 13 years.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Anthony Barry, and a sister, Lonnie Foster.

FORT WORTH -- Milton A. Bass Sr., 85, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Laurel Land Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes. Burial will be in Laurel Land Memorial Park.

Mr. Bass was born in Corsicana and lived in Abilene for many years. He worked as a credit manager. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and Bethel Baptist Church in Waxahachie and was the widower of Mamie Ruth Bass.

Lisa (Fisher) Batson

Lisa Fisher Batson, 33, of Longview entered heaven May 11, 2001 following a lengthy stay in a Houston hospital.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Woodland Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Starr officiating. Interment followed at Lakeview Mausoleum.

She was born March 17, 1968 and a was a longtime resident of Longview. She attended Pine Tree Schools and graduated in 1986. She was a stay-at-home mom and a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.

After being diagnosed with acute leukemia in 1997, she "fought the good fight." In March 1999, she received healthy bone marrow from an anonymous donor. One year ago she had the privilege of meeting her donor and the two became special friends.

She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed outdoor activities, painting, crafting and shopping. Her dogs brought her much happiness.

Survivors include her son Michael D. Batson, daughter Carol Malynn Batson and their father Mark Batson; mother, Carolyn Fisher; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Kelly Fisher; niece, Caraline Fisher, all of Longview; father, Bob Fisher of Birmingham, Ala.; grandmother, Bobbie Fisher of Odessa; aunt and uncle, Betty and Jerry Plummer of Houston; cousins, Joey Plummer and Jason Plummer of Austin.

She dedicated her life to helping people in need.

She was a self-employed businesswoman.

Vera Mae Beeman, 86, of Corsicana, died June 20, 1995, in Ennis. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Corley Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James Evans officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Mrs. Beeman was born Nov 20, 1908, in Navarro County. She was a member of Community Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Bettie Daniel of Eueless and Wynell Payne of Waxahachie; two sisters, Katherine Akers of Corsicana and Dorothy McGraw of Blooming Grove, three brothers, Wayland Thomas of Purdon, Melvin Thomas of Sherman, and Chester Lee Thompson of Waco; her sister-in-law, Ruby Beeman of Corsicana; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen Watts Bell, 75, of Hubbard passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2000 at a Waco hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Wade Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Rust officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was born May 17, 1925 in Frost. She had been a resident of Hubbard since 1985 after moving from Austin, where she had worked for the state of Texas in the Texas Employment Commission for 21 years. She was raised in Navarro County and was a graduate of Frost High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hubbard, where she was active in the W.M.U.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bell, in May of 1992; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mrs. Bell is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry Paul and Patricia Bell of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Claude Bell.

BELL DOROTHY MIXON, was born in Corsicana, Texas, on October 31, 1933 and passed away in Irving, Texas, surrounded by her family on December 8, 2000. Dorothy was a loving wife to her husband of 45 years, James Bell of Irving, and was a beloved mother to daughter and son-in-law Glynis and Bob Elliott of Coppell, daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Bob Burke of Coppell, and Daughter Kari Bell of Irving. She was "Baw-Baw" to her three grandchildren, Denise and Rebecca Elliott and Christina Burke. Dorothy is also survived by three sisters, four brothers and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. She will be loved and missed greatly. HEREFORD - Minnie Lee Bentley, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Rix Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Travis Curry officiating. Burial will be in Westpark Cemetery.

Mrs. Bentley was born in Navarro County. She married John Otis Bentley in 1931 at Corsicana. They traveled while he worked and moved to Hereford following his retirement in 1973. He died in 1989.

She was active in the Baptist church as a Sunday school teacher before moving to Hereford and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Hereford.

Survivors include two brothers, John Patrick of Corsicana and Bill Patrick of Elkhart; and two sisters, Ruby Thomas and Nellie Brown of Corsicana.

The family suggests memorials in lieu of flowers be to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.

Earl T. Berry, 88, of Kerens, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2000 at Heritage Oaks West Nursing Home in Corsicana.

Visitation was 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Paschal Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wes Johnson. Burial will be at Kerens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.

Berry was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Kerens. He was a veteran of WWII and was retired from the Chattanooga Glass Company in Corsicana.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Lucille Berry in 1964.
He is survived by wife Eunice Berry of Kerens; son, Kelly Don Berry of Kerens; daughters Carolyn Franklin of Kerens, Pat Huggins of Kerens and Judy Hodge of Corsicana; step-son, Roger McCaslin; step-daughter, Martha Sue Smith; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services for Dorothy Lee Berry, 73, of Tool, were 10 a.m. May 19, at the First Baptist Church of Tool, with the Rev. Rocky Weatherford officiating.

Interment followed at 2:30 p.m., in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Waxahachie, under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points.

Mrs. Berry died May 16, 2001, at a hospital in Corsicana.

She was born June 11, 1927, in Stephenville and was married to Charles Ray Berry on March 21, 1944, in Dallas. Mrs. Berry retired in 1971. She worked as a bookkeeper for C.R. Feaster & Co., in Waxahachie, for five years. She had been a resident of Tool for the past 24 years, after moving from Waxahachie. Mrs. Berry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tool, where she was a member of the choir and had been extremely active in church function. She was also a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR), Rebekah Boyce Chapter, Gun Barrel Quilting Guild, and Women of Missions. Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her parents, William Oscar and Jesse Mildred Jones Howard; son, Charles Howard Berry; brothers, William Robert "Bob" Howard and Richard Gordon "Dick" Howard.

Survivors include husband of 57 years, Charles Ray Berry of Tool; daughters and spouse, Beverly and Mike O'Daniel of Waxahachie and Jamie Klein of Plano; grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle, Lindsey, Ashley and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Jake and Jacey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Nelda Howard of Waxahachie, Jean Hilsher of Kaufman, Fannie Mae and Dan Stanley of McKinney and Dorothy and Johnny Briggs of Waco.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Garry Lee and Tammi Berry of Austin, James Loran and Susan Berry of Orange, and Larry Allan and Michelle Berry of Boerne; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Dunn and Billye Francis Edge, both of Dallas; and seven grandchildren.
