ALLEN, MAURINE                                         June 2, 1910 � September 3, 1998

Maurine Allen, 88, of Naples died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998 in a Naples nursing center.  Mrs. Allen was born June 2, 1910 in Morris Co.  She was a retired stewardess, homemaker and member of Cottrell Chapel CME and Norris S Currey CEM Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member, and she was a Heroine of Jericho, Court No. 232.  Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Marion and Kathy Ford of Las Vegas and Edwin and Berdie Rutherford of Naples; one brother, Paul Allen, Sr. of Naples; three sisters, Anna Belle Cannon of Naples, Essie D. Cannon of Los Angeles and Mollie Hill of Oakland, CA; eight grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  Services were Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998 at Norris S. Curry CME Church in Naples with the Rev. Q. T. Williams and the rev. R. N. King officiating.  Burial will be in the Morning Star Cemetery under the direction of Tumey Mortuary. ALLEN, PAUL                                                      June 22, 1919 � August 1, 2000

Services for Mr. Paul Allen, 81, of Naples were Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. C. E. Williams officiating.  Mr. Allen was born June 22, 1919 in Naples.  He died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Mt. Pleasant.  He was retired from Red River Army Depot and an Army veteran of World War II.  Survivors include four daughters and one son-in-law, Lora Dacus of Dallas, Arve Horsley and Sandra McGary of Lewisville, and Bridget and Arnold Fariley of Pflugerville; one son, Paul Allen Jr. of Texarkana; two sisters, Annabelle Cannon of Naples and Mollie E. Hill of Oakland, CA; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Paul Allen.  Burial was in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

 

ARMSTRONG, ELLA MAE                                April 19, 1908 � May 16, 2004

Services for Mrs. Ella Mae Armstrong, 96, of Naples, were Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Norris S. Curry CME Church with the Rev. Harold Wright officiating.  Mrs. Armstrong was born April 19, 1906, in Dalby Springs.  She died Sunday, May 16, 2004, in Naples.  She was a homemaker and member of Norris S. Curry CME Church.  Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary K. Boyd and Willie Pearl and Waymon Boyd of Naples; four sisters, Cornel Walker of DeKalb, Era Jean McGowan and Verline Simms of Dallas and LayDonya Adams of Texarkana; two sisters-in-law, Shirley McGown of DeKalb and Tolethier Petty of Naples; one special friend, Noble Buford; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Todd Perry and Robert �Bob� Armstrong; and one granddaughter, Beverly Pearl Daniels-Turner.  Interment was at Morning Star Cemetery in Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

BAKER, ELLEY                                                     June 22, 1915 � May 26, 1996 

Elley Baker, 80, of Naples, died Sunday, May 26, at Lancaster, Texas.  Funeral services were at 11 am, Wednesday, May 29, at the Norris Samuel Curry CME Church in Naples, with the Rev. W. T. Wilkins and the Rev. Q. T. Williams officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Mr. Baker was born June 22, 1915, in Naples.  He is survived by one sister, Fannie Hicks, and a host of relatives and friends.   (Sec C, Left South Side)

 

BARBER, ELBRIDGE                                        March 3, 1942 � August 1, 1999

Services for Mr. Elbridge �Burt� Barber, 57, of Naples, were Friday, August 6, 1999, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. C. E. Williams officiating.  Mr. Barber was born March 3, 1942, in Marietta.  He died Sunday, August 1, 1999 in Mt. Pleasant.  He was a maintenance worker and a Baptist.  Survivors include his mother, Evada Barber of Naples; three sisters, Vertis Whetstone of Naples, Delois Connally of Dallas and Marcel Wilson of Chicago.  Burial was in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Sec D, Left at Fork bet A & C)

 

BLACK, VERETTA FAYE                                August 23, 1955 � May 25, 2001

Services for Miss Veretta Faye Black, 45, of Naples will be conducted today, Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 11 am at Norris S. Curry CME Church with the Rev. Harold Wright, Jr. officiating.  Miss Black was born August 23, 1955 in Naples.  She died Friday, May 25, 2001 at her home.  She was a nurses� aide and a member of Norris S Curry CME Church.  Survivors include her parents, Will Ella White of Naples and George D. Black of Omaha; four sons; five brothers, four sisters; two grandchildren and a number of aunts, uncles, nephews and other relatives.  Burial will be at Morning Star Cemetery.   (Location Unknown)

 

BONNER, JOHNNIE B.                          September 18, 1922 � October 8, 1998

Johnnie B. Bonner, 76, of Naples, died Sunday, October 8, 1998, following a brief illness.  Funeral services will be at 2 pm, Saturday, November 14, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. James Boyce officiating, and burial will be in the Morning Star Cemetery in Naples, under the direction of Reeder-David Funeral Home of Hughes Springs.  Sis. Bonner was born September 18, 1922, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Germany.  She was raised by Mrs. Ella Porter after her mother died during child birth.  She was a member of the Wilkerson Temple Church of God in Christ where she was a faithful member and worker serving as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher.  She was married March 29, 1941 to Jimmie E. Bonner and they were the parents of five children.  Survivors include Clarence Williams of McAllen; James Bonner of Naples; Margaret Young of Garland, and Joyce and Erbie Bonner of Naples; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a nephew, Robert Nickleberry, Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.  (Sec D, Left at fork bet  A & C)

 

BOYD, DENNIS RAY                                 October 14, 1962 � October 17, 2004

Services for Mr. Dennis Ray Boyd, 42, of Naples, were Saturday, October 23, 2004, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. C. E. Williams officiating.  Mr. Boyd was born October 14, 1962 in Atlanta, to Martine and Delwyn Ray Boyd.  He died Sunday, October 17, 2004.  He graduated from Paul Pewitt High School, attended Jarvis Christian College and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  Survivors include his mother, Martine Boyd of Naples; three sisters, Veta Boyd and Barbara (Jerry) Boyd, all of Naples, and Iris Boyd of Atlanta, GA; and numerous relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Delwyn Ray Boyd; and one brother, Steven Chris Boyd.  Interment was at Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

Graveside services for Mrs. Bonnie Rhue Holley Brannon, 91, of Dallas, were Saturday, September 22, 2001 at Morning Star Cemetery.  Mrs. Brannon was born July 27, 1910 in Naples.  She died Wednesday, September 19, 2001 in Dallas.  She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Naples.  Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her husband.  (Location Unknown)

Bernice �Jim� Bray, 78, of Naples, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in a local medical center. Services were held at 1 pm, Sunday, January 17, at Norris S. Curry CME Church with O. T. Williams and the Rev. George Rowe officiating.  Burial was held in Morning Star Cemetery under direction of Tumey Mortuary.  Mrs. Bray was born June 1, 1920, in Dalby Springs.  She was a homemaker and member of Norris S. BRYANT, ZADIE                                             January 10, 1914 � June 21, 1996

Zadie Bryant, 82, of Naples, died Friday, June 21, 1996, at her home.  Funeral services were at 11 am, Thursday, June 27, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. James E. Boyce officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Mrs. Bryant was born January 10, 1914, in Morris County.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she served as president of the Missionary Society and was secretary of the Usher Board for which she served for over 30 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivory �See Saw� Bryant, and a daughter, Mary Theresa Gaines.  Survivors include one grandson and his wife, Jerry A. and Angela Gaines of Lexington, KY; one son-in-law, Merkerson Gaines of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Chris and Trey Gaines of Lexington; two sisters-in-law, Neoda Miller and Vanessa Robinson of Naples, two nieces, Jewel Boyd of Tacoma, WA, and Helen Robinson of Naples; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.  (At Fork Between A & C)

Services for Mrs. Emma Mae Buford, 79, of Naples will be conducted Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at 1 pm at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Boyce officiating.  Mrs. Buford was born March 12, 1921 in Naples.  She died Thursday, May 25, 2000 in a Ft. Worth hospital.  She was a retired teacher, affiliated with Antioch Baptist Church, teacher of Cypress Baptist District, former secretary of the State Baptist Convention, matron of Heroines of Jericho, former secretary of Grand Lodge in Ft. Worth and a member of Adeline Study Club.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Dave Buford.  Survivors include one daughter, Ethel B. Crear of Grand Prairie; one son, Charles Buford of Naples; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.  Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Sec B-Middle)

BESSIE MAY BYRD, 80, of Naples, died Monday, October 23, 1995 at Redbud Retreat nursing Home in Naples.  Funeral services were at 1 pm, Saturday, October 28, at the Williams Chapel Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. J. M. Brooks officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery.  Mrs. Byrd was born January 2, 1915.  She was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Chapel Christian Church in Omaha.  Survivors include two stepsons, Vernon Byrd of Brownfield, TX, and Ernest Byrd of Tyler; two stepdaughters, Ermaline Wilkerson of Naples, and Codella Porter of Oakland, CA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two nieces; and a number of other relatives.   (Section C Left � South Side)

Barney Cannon, 90, of Naples, died Wednesday, February 7, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.  Funeral services were Monday, February 12, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. Rochelle officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Mr. Cannon was born May 11, 1905, in Naples.  He is survived by his wife, Anna Belle Cannon of  Naples; sisters, Opal Holloway, Amanda D. Boren, Lula P. Hiner and Florida L. Blaylock, all of Naples; brothers, Henry B. Cannon Sr. of Los Angeles, and Moses P. Cannon Jr., of Texarkana; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rochelle officiating.  Mr. Cannon was born March 1, 1937, in Cass County.  He died Monday, June 13, 2005 in Pittsburg.  Survivors include one son, Melvin Cannon of Conroe; one daughter, Ruby Lawton of Dallas; three sisters, Edwina C. Scales of Oxnard, CA, Jimmie Payne of Naples and Mary Ellen Maxwell of Winnetka, CA; three brothers, Will T. CANNON, WILLIAM THOMAS              January 21, 1916 � January 15, 2006

Services for William Thomas (Will T) Cannon, 89, of Dallas, formerly of Naples, were January 21, 2006, in Dallas at the Acts Baptist Church with Pastor T. J. Prince officiating.  Mr. Cannon was born January 21, 1916, to the parentage of James (Jim) and Mollie Cannon of Naples.  He died January 15, 2006 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.  He attended Naples Public Schools and retired from LTV in Dallas after 20 years.  He served as a deacon at the Good Street Baptist Church under the pastorage of Dr. C. A. W. Clark until his health failed.  Preceding Mr. Cannon in death were his parents, a daughter, Wilma cannon; his step-mother who raised him, Susie Ellen Cannon; seven sisters; and five brothers.  Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Rhoades and Mary Griffin of Dallas; one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Henrietta Griffin of Garland; three sisters, Edwina Scales of Oxnard, CA, Mary Ellen Maxwell of Winnetka, CA, and Jimmie Payne of Naples; two brothers, Alfred Cannon of Omaha, and Waylon Cannon of Fontana, CA; and a number of grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.  Interment was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  (Location Unknown)

Wilson Carpenter, 80, of Naples, died Friday, November 14, 1997, at his home.  Funeral services were at 2 pm, Wednesday, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. James E. Boyce officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Mr. Carpenter was born March 10, 1917, in Omaha.  He was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Carpenter of Naples who he married November 12, 1938; a brother, Milton Carpenter of Naples; and one sister, Leverda Smith of Naples.  (Section C, L South Side)

COFFEY, HELEN MARIE                                     June 20, 1955 � July 14, 2006

Services for Ms. Helen Marie Coffey, 51, of Naples, were July 22, 2006, at Norris Curry CME Church in Naples, with the Rev. Harold Wright officiating.  Ms. Coffey was born June 20, 1955 in Naples.  She died July 14, 2006, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.  She was a member of the Methodist Church, and she was a cook.  Survivors include four sons, Justin, Kerrie and Kevin, all of Naples, and Adrian of Arlington; one daughter, Lakesha of Naples; her mother, S. L. Hawkins of Naples; two brothers, Tommie Hawkins of Naples, and George R. Coffey of Arlington; three sisters, Sylblene Hawkins, Charlene Hawkins and Burnett Coffey, all of Naples; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Interment was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home.  (Location Unknown)

Tommie C. Coffey, 71, of Naples, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998.  Funeral services were at 2 pm, Monday, June 28, at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at Naples, with the Rev. James Boyce and the Rev. Q. T. Williams officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Mr. Coffey was born May 3, 1927 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Coffey.  He was a member of the N. S. Curry Church at an early age.  Survivors include his wife, Georgia Wright Coffey; four daughters, Ester Mason, Anna Hill and Mary Hill, all of Naples, and Georgia Mae Boyd of Dallas; one son, Lumdale Wright of Naples; three sisters, Ella Mae Carpenter and Jewel Heath of Naples, and Martha White of Arlington; two brothers, Lourenza Coffey and George Coffey of Naples; an aunt, Minnie Stiggers of Naples; an uncle, Jim Coffey of Greenville; twenty grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.  (Sec C, L South Side)

Currey CME Church of Naples.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Miss Collins was born February 28, 1914, in Morris County.  She was a homemaker and member of the Methodist Church.  Survivors include a sister, Christene Johns of Houston; three nephews and nieces-in-law, Nathaniel and Delores Collins Jr., of Texarkana, Hobart P. and Yvonne Collins of Hampton, VA, and Patrick M. and Lee Ann Collins of Naples; three nieces and nephews-in-law, Mary E. and Dewey Moss of Detroit, MI, Sara and Richard Washington of Corsicana, and Raydonna and Lester Hall of Waco; a brother-in-law, Willie McCann of Houston; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Collins of Naples; and a host of cousins and friends.  (At Ravine)

 

DANIELS, BEVERLY PEARL                       January 28, 1942 � April 18, 1996

BEVERLY PEARL DANIELS, 54, of Mt. Pleasant, died Thursday, April 18, 1996 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.  Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, April 23, at the Union Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. F. E. Hargraves officiating.  Interment was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  Ms. Daniels was born January 28, 1942, to Mary K. Petty and Pleas Daniels.  She was first a member of the Cottrell Chapel CME Church of Naples, and then with Union Chapel Baptist Church where she served as a member of the senior choir.  She graduated from George Washington Carver High School at Omaha-Naples, attended East Texas State University, Texarkana Community College and Northeast Texas Community College.  She was employed with the Mt. Pleasant School District where she was a paraprofessional and a bus driver.  She is survived by three children and their spouses, LaTonya and Raymond Ellis St., of Cason, Wesley and Anissa Turner, and Jackie Johnson, all of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Durron W. Turner, Brandi Green, Raymond Ellis Jr., and Malik Ellis; her mther and stepfather, Mary K. and B. J. Boyd of Naples; sisters, Linda Kelly of Omaha, Joyce Boyd of Mesquite, and Stephanie Boyd of Naples; two brothers, Bobby and Ray Daniels, both of Texarkana; a grandmother, Ella Mae Armstrong of Naples; an aunt, Willie Pearl Boyd of Naples; a Godsister, Gloria Mitchell; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends. Eddie Denweed, 73, of Naples, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.  Funeral services were at 2 pm, Wednesday, June 24, at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. James Boyce officiating.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery.  Mr. Denweed was born November 12, 1924, in Naples.  He was a retired cook with Arlington Community Hospital, and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.  Survivors include one son, Earnest Hubbard of Arlington; three brothers, George Coffey, Tommie Coffey and Lourenza Coffey, all of Naples; three sisters, Ella Mae Carpenter and Jewel Heath, both of Naples, and Martha White of Arlington; and two grandchildren.  ( Sec C, L South Side)

GAMBLE, ERMA HINES                          March 5, 1919 � November 12, 2008

Services for Mrs. Erma Hines Gamble, 89, of Naples, were November 18, 2008, at the Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with the Rev. James Boyce officiating.  Mrs. Hines was born March 5, 1 919, in Foreman, Arkansas.  She died November 12, 2008, at her home.  She was a retired insurance salesperson for Universal Life Insurance Company, a member of the Eastern Star, Marietta Delight, Chapter 178 of Marietta, and a member, usher and missionary president of Antioch Baptist Church.  Preceding her in death were her husband, Theodore R. Gamble; one son, Jessie Leon Gamble; and one daughter, Mary C. Brown.  Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, T. W. Gamble and George and Lacyne Gamble, of Omaha; two daughters, Janie C. Turner of Dallas and Jewel P. Brazier of California; two special nephews, William Fred Walker Sr., of Ashdown, Arkansas, and Charles Hines of Texarkana; two special nieces, Berdie Rutherford of Naples, and Erma Jean McNair of Los Angeles; and a number of other relatives and many friends.  Burial was in the Morning Star cemetery at Naples.  (Location Unknown)

HAWKINS, TOMMIE                                       August 20, 1951 � May 10, 2009 Tommie Jean Hawkins, 57, of Naples, Texas, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, in a local hospital.  Mr. Hawkins was born Aug. 20, 1951, in Bryan Mills, Texas.  He was a farmer and a member of Norris Curry CME Church.  Survivors include his wife, Oretha Johnson; his mother, S. L. Hawkins; one brother, George Richard Coffey of Naples; four sisters, Charlene Hawkins, Sylblene Hawkins and Burnette Coffey of Naples and Darlene Harris of Palmer, Texas; and a number of other relatives.  Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Norris Curry CME Church with the Rev. HENDERSON, JAMES HAROLD                 February 20, 1938 � July 20, 2000

Services for Mr. James Harold Henderson, 62, of Naples were Monday, July 24, 2000 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. James Boyce officiating.  Mr. Henderson was born Feb. 20, 1938 in Naples.  He died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at his residence.  He was a retired employee of the City of Naples water department maintenance, a US Air Force veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 52, a deacon and a volunteer fireman for the city of Naples.  Survivors include his mother, Sophia Henderson of Naples; one son, James F. Henderson of Germany; two daughters, Beverly Lynn of DeSoto and Diedra Totten of Houston; two brothers, Bobby Henderson of San Antonio and Willie N. Services for Sophie Henderson, 92, of Naples, were July 29, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church in Naples, with  the Rev. James Boyce and Rev. Art Wilson officiating.  Mrs. Henderson was born November 7, 1915, in Darden, Texas, the daughter of Willie and Victoria Miller Wilson.  She died July 23, 2008, in Mt. Pleasant.  She was retired from Red River Army Depot, was a member of Lodge #232 Heroines of Jericho, Mary Allen Court and was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Henderson; a son, James Harold Henderson; her parents; 17 brothers and sisters; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.  Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Dan and Mary L Henderson of San Antonio and Willie Norman and Mary V Henderson of Naples; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.  Pallbearers were Anthony Stokes, Patrick Collins, Ed Robinson, Bobby Whetstone, George Robinson and Charles Moore.  Honorary pallbearers included Willie N Henderson Jr., James F. Services for mother, homemaker, member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and lifetime resident of Naples, Mrs. Leverta Smith, 84, of Naples, were Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999 at the Antioch Baptist Church.  Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 30, 1915 in Morris Co.  She died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999 at Redbud Retreat Nursing Home in Naples.  Survivors include six sons, R. L. Shepherd of Naples, Roy C. Smith of Texarkana, Willie J. Smith of Dallas, Charles M Smith of Dublin, CA, Elsa A. Smith of Naples, and Ray D. Smith of Dallas; three daughters, Annie Smith of Naples, Catherine Smith Whetstone of Topeka, KS, and Patricia Reeves of Tyler; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.  Pallbearers were Charlie C. Young, John L. Taylor, George A. Gamble, R. J. Services for Mr. Willie Stigers, 89, of Naples, were held Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. C. E. Williams officiating.  Mr. Stigers was born Jan. 22, 1910, in Naples.  He died Friday, April 30, 1999 in an area hospital.  He was a retired construction worker, member and deacon of Morning Star Baptist Church, chairman of the deacon board and groundskeeper.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stigers; one son, Willie Stigers, Jr.; and one daughters, Fayrene Buster.  Survivors include two daughters, Nadine Warren of Wichita Falls, and Iva Jean Harris of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.  Burial was held in Morning Star Cemetery under the direction of Tumey Mortuary.  (Sec C, L South Side)

TAYLOR, JOHN L.                                   March 14, 1930 � November 18, 2008

Services for Mr. John L. Taylor, 78, of Naples, were November 23, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Boyce officiating.  Mr. Taylor was born March 14, 1930, in Naples, to the late Lenora D. Hunter and Ardmore Taylor.  He departed November 18, 2008, leaving family and friends with lots of cherished memories.  He accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted Christian and active member of Antioch Baptist Church.  He served the Lord as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary, usher and board member.  He was a graduate of Carver High School and a strong believer in education.  He received an associate degree at McNeese College before entering the military.  He was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Lackland Air Force Base; Alaska; Panama; Korea; Germany and Vietnam.  He was a devoted soldier as a 10th Special Forces Green Beret and was honored with numerous commendations and awards.  He retired with 25 years of honorable service as a Non Commissioned Officer.  Soon after, he was employed at Red River Army Depot where he again retired after 9 years.  He was a gracious servant to the areas school board, served as a city councilman for many years, was an active participant with the Naples Watermelon Festival and was selected as the 2006 Grand Marshal.  Survivors from a previous marriage to Katherine Taylor include four daughters, LaCarole Faulkner of Moorestown, New Jersey, Karen Williams and Tracey Taylor of Orlando, Florida, and Kimberly Johnson of Kannapolis, North Carolina; stepson, Kenya M King currently stationed in Bamberg, Germany, from a marriage with Mildred Taylor of  Naples; two sons-in-law, Leonard Faulkner and Shadee Johnson; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of family members.  Burial was in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

He was employed with Titus Regional Medical Center and a member of Norris S. Curry CME Church, Naples. Survivors include his wife, Orallezettie Thomas of Omaha; four sons, Vernon Thomas and Love Thomas of Houston, De Jon Mayes of Los Angeles and Vadail Thomas of Omaha; three brothers, Johnny Thomas of Naples, Leroy Thomas of Richmond, Va., and Bobbie Thomas of Arkansas; five sisters, Sally Thomas Hill and Minnie Thomas of Naples, Virginia Boyd of Cason, Texas, Betty Thomas of Houston and Alice Thomas Traylor of Longview, Texas; two grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. Carl Hannah officiating.  Mr. Whetstone was born August 26, 1924 in Naples.  He died Sunday, April 2, 2006 in Dallas.  He was a former truck driver for Hampton Trucking Co. in Naples, a Navy veteran, a member of Morning Star Church and a lifetime resident of Naples.  Survivors include two sons, George Murphy of Texarkana and Michael Hannah of Naples; one daughter, Pinkey Whetstone of Hughes Springs; and one sister, Maxine Dixon of Omaha.  He was preceded in death by his wife; his mother and father; two brothers; and one sister.  Interment was at Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

 

WILKERSON, ALTON C.                             September 3, 1946 � June 20, 2006

Funeral services for Mr. Alton C. Wilkerson, 59, of Naples, were Saturday, June 24, at Tumey Mortuary in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Don Hill officiating.  Mr. Wilkerson was born September 3, 1946 in Naples.  He died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 in Tyler.  He was retired from Bonded Motors, and was a veteran of the US Air Force.  Survivors include two sons, Alton Charles (Bugsy) Wilkerson II, and Alton Charles (Snuggie) Wilkerson III, of Los Angeles; his mother, Faydell Wilkerson of Naples; two sisters, Shirley Wilkerson and Sheila Wilkerson, of Mesquite; three grandchildren, Diondre Wilkerson, Keontae Wilkerson and Ashley Wilkerson of Los Angeles; and a number of other relatives.  Interment was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  (Location Unknown)

 

WILKERSON, FAYDELL                       October 7, 1928 � September 22, 2006

Services for Mrs. Faydell Wilkerson, 77, of Naples were Friday, September 29, 2006, at Norris S Curry CME Church with the Rev. Don Hill and Rev. Melvina Darty officiating.  Mrs. Wilkerson was born October 7, 1928 in Naples.  She died Friday, September 22, 2006 in Mt. Pleasant.  She was retired from David Granberry Hospital and a member of Lodge 232, Heroines of Jericho, Mary Allen Court and Norris S Curry CME Church.  Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Wilkerson and Sheila Wilkerson, both of Mesquite; four brothers, Forrest Warren and Billy Warren, both of Los Angeles and A. C. Warren and Wesley �Jack� Warren, both of Naples; four sisters, Johnnie Mae Warren, Betty Warren and Thelma Warren, all of Naples, and Jeanette Warren of Los Angeles; two grandsons, and numerous other relatives.  She was preceded in death by one son, Alton Wilkerson.  Interment was at Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

 

WILLIAMS, CLARENCE LAWRENCE         Dec. 22, 1922 � August 25, 2000

Services for Mr. Clarence Lawrence Williams, 77, of Naples will be today, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000 at 11 am at the Norris S Curry CME Church with the Rev. Harold Wright officiating.  Mr. Williams was born Dec. 22, 1922 in Commerce, the son of Willie Williams and Bertha Williams Reynolds.  He died Friday, August 25, 2000 at SunBridge Nursing Home.  He attended Carver High School, served in the US Merchant Marines during World War II, served in Okinawa aboard the USS John Muir.  Mr. Williams was employed as a US Postal worker for 29 years before retiring.  He was a member of the Norris S Curry CME Church where he served as a trustee.  He is survived by his sons Clarence Williams, Jr. of McAllen and James N. Williams of Daly City, CA; daughters Margarette A. Robinson of San Jose, CA, Marjorie Patterson of DeSoto and Phenicia Tyson of Hammond, LA; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.  Interment will be in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)

 

WILLIAMS, GRADY                                August 22, 1911 � December 27, 2004

Services for Mr. Grady Williams, 93, of Naples were January 1, 2005 at Williams Chapel Baptist Church of Naples, with the Rev. Sammie D. Ivery, Jr., officiating.  Mr. Williams was born August 22, 1911, in Morris Co.  He died December 27, 2004 at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant.  He was a farmer and a member of the Williams Chapel Baptist Church.  Survivors include one daughter, Bertha Legans of Ft. Worth; a step-daughter, Bobby Jo Gaston of Marietta; 13 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one brother, A. W. William of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Burial was in the Morning Star Cemetery at Naples.  (Location Unknown)

YOUNG, GUSSIE MAE                                      May 3, 1918 � October 31, 2008

Services for Gussie Mae Young, 90, of Naples, were November 8, 2008, at Antioch Baptist Church with Bishop Charlie C Young Jr., Officiating.  Mrs. Young was born May 3, 1918, in Omaha.  She died October 31, 2008, in Mt. Pleasant.  She attended Naples Public Schools, was a life long resident of Naples, a homemaker, a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir.  She was preceded in death by her husband.  Survivors include five sons, John A. and Elizabeth Young of Lafayette, IN, Deryl G Young of Naples, Cleve A Young and Donny R and Margaret Young of Garland, Bishop Charlie C and Eva Young of Naples; 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  Burial was in Morning Star Cemetery.  (Location Unknown)
