BOBBIE LEE FARMER
Funeral services for Bobbie Lee Skipworth Farmer, 91,
will be at 2 o'clock P. M. Wednesday in St. Marks' Episcopal Church
with the Rev. Bruce Green, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Farmer died at 3:40 P. M. Saturday, February 16, 2002,
in Prairie House Living Center. She was born August 22, 1910,
at Kress, Texas.
She received a Bachelor's Degree in Music and a Master's Degree
in Education from Texas Tech University. In addition,
she completed extra work at Wayland Baptist University,
Abilene Christian College, Mississippi Southern University
and Matlock Teacher's College. She studied in England,
Copenhagen, Paris, Geneva and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
Her professional memberships included the Musical Arts Club,
Plainview Cultural Arts Council, Opera Guild, Ham Radio Club
and many music teacher associations plus faculty status and
adjudicator in the National Guild of Piano Teachers.
She was an approved teacher for the American College of Musicians
and received the Hall of Fame Honor.
She was a three-time nominee for Woman of the Year in the Panhandle
and also had been honored by the Plainview Soroptimist Club
and several Who's Who listings including the U. S. Registry of
Who's Who of Outstanding Americans for 1994-1995.
She received the Plainview Chamber of Commerce Citizens Service
Award in 1993 and in 1999 received the Pioneer of the Year
awarded by the Senior Citizens Center.
A gifted writer, she reviewed cultural arts performances and concerts
for the Plainview Daily Herald for many years.
She was a member of St. Marks' Episcopal Church.
On September 2, 1934, she married Robert Farmer in Gray County.
He died April 16, 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Farmer of Tomales, California,
and James Farmer of Napa, California;
a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin "Skip" and Wilsie Skipworth
of Amarillo; four grandchildren, including Geoffrey Farmer
of Plainview; and three great-grandchildren.

JAY FUNK 1938 - 2001
Jay B Funk, 63, died Friday, Nov 30, 2001.
Services will be at 10 am Monday, Dec 3, 2001, at the First Baptist
Church of Dumas with the Rev James A Sinyard, associate pastor of
Carpenter's Church in Pampa officiating.
Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Mr Funk was born Aug 7, 1938, in Shattuck, OK. He graduated from
Dumas High School in 1956. He married Jackie Howeth on Nov 11, 1956,
in Dumas and was a Dumas resident from 1942 - 1991, when he moved to
Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Jackie; a daughter, Patty Sue
Himmel of Amarillo; two sons, Jerry B and wife Brenda of Amarillo
and Michael L and wife, Andee of Dumas; his mother Neva Funk Lamb of
Higgins; three sisters, Billie Leigh Elijher and husband Ted of
Shattuck; Sheryl Ann Braithewaite and husband Jim of Kennewick,
Washington; two granddaughters, Randa M Warton of Camp Pendleton, CA
and Stacey Himmel of LaPorte and three grandsons, Mitchell and Coleman
of Dumas and Brandon Himmel of Camp Pendleton.
The family suggests memorials to the Moore County Historical Museum,
1820 S Dumas Ave, Dumas, TX 79029; or to Baptist St Anthony's Hospice,
P O Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79176-0001.
Jay Funk was the first person I called when I begain
researching Moore County, Texas. "Jay knows more people in Moore County
than anyone" I was told. And when I talked to him by telephone, I felt
his spririt and love of the people in Cactus and Dumas! You have touched

Jay B. Funk, a long time
Moore County resident and the author of several books on Dumas
and Moore County has mailed books to me: "Our Town Dumas",
contains a picture history of Dumas; "Our One and Only Cactus",
the commerce generated by the Cactus residents and plant were a
big boost to Moore County; "Barbershoppin' in Dumas". These
books include comments and photos from many of the people who
live in and support
