Tyler W. Cagles Are Due Here For Visit

Capt. and Mrs. Tyler W. Cagle will arrive in Fort Worth this week for a visit with relatives before coming to Abilene to spend several days as guests of their uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. William R. Snow, 702 Sayles.

Captain and Mrs. Cagle came from Panama by plane landing in New York City a week ago. Captain Cagle has been stationed at Gorgas Hospital in Panama for the past three years. His sister, Mrs. C. A. Renton, 1042 Hickory, will go to Fort Worth to meet them.

Capt. Cagle Is Back From Panama
First Time Since 1940

Capt. Tyler W. Cagle, dentist in the Army medical corps on detached duty with the governor of the Panama Canal zone, and Mrs. Cagle, civilian employee of the Army engineers arrived in Abilene Wednesday night for a visit with Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Snow, 702 Sayles, and Mrs. C. A. Renton. They will be here until Saturday.

Captain Cagle is home for the first time since he left for Panama in December, 1940. This is his first visit with his sister, Mrs. Renton of England, in seven years. He is a nephew of Mrs. Snow.

Captain Cagle went to Panama as a civilian employee after internship in Columbia Presbyterian medical center in New York City. His position became a part of the Army in October, 1943, and he was accepted as a first lieutenant, receiving his present rank in June, this year.

His patients are Navy and Army personnel and also U. S. civilian employees.

Mrs. Cagle, the former Sue Woolery of New York City, is connected with an Army dispensary as a nurse. She and Captain Cagle were married in Panama in April, 1941. For her first 18 months in Panama she was a junior accountant with the Navy department. She was on the nursing staff at Columbia Presbyterian, of which she is a graduate.

Captain Cagle, graduate of Abilene High School and in 1935 of Hardin Simmons University where he was a member of the male quartet, finished dental school at Northwestern in 1939.

He was employed in the Reporter-News mailing room and press room while attending high school here and Hardin-Simmons.

He and Mrs. Cagle will continue their work in Panama indefinitely, maintaining a legal address in Abilene, as required by Panama residents.

Making the circuit by plane, the couple arrived in the states Sept. 18, and will leave from New Orleans, La., at the conclusion of their visit here.

Mrs. Snow is holding open house in their honor this evening from 5:30 to 9:30 p. m. at the Snow residence.

Dr. Cagle was in Bay City by June, 1951 and was listed in the 1953 telephone directory as having his office at 2807 7th Street.

Dr. Cagle was practicing in Temple, Bell County, Texas as reported in an article, Large Attendance Dental Meetings, in the Corsicana Daily Sun, January 8, 1958 and was still in Temple in 1974 according to an article in the Waco Citizen on January 10, 1974.

Susan Cagle

MEXIA -- Services for Susan Woolery Cagle, 90, of Alvin and formerly of Mexia will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Porter Funeral Home in Mexia with the Rev. Marcus Sheffield officiating.

Burial will be in Mexia Cemetery.

She died Thursday, Jan. 23, in Alvin.

Mrs. Cagle was born in New Lebanon, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Tyler W. Cagle.

She is survived by a daughter, Alice Cagle of Alvin.
