Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. Della Braden, Mrs. Ethel Bluhm, Mrs. Lena Duller and Miss Janice Harris went to Houston, Monday evening to hear the Houston Symphony.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thorp and little Bobbie Thorp, spent the week end in Gatesville, Texas, visiting Mr. Thorp, Sr., Robert's father.

Mrs. Johnnie Ley of Victoria, came home to nurse her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Murphy, while they are sick from flu.

Mrs. Fred B. Thurber of Providence, R. I. Mrs. William G. Thurber and son, Tracy Thurber of Galveston, Texas, Col. M. T. Flanagan of Longview, Texas and Mrs. Bernard J. Flanagan of San Antonio, Texas, have been visiting their sister, Mrs. Wyatt O. Selkirk and Col. Wyatt O. Selkirk.

Mrs. Fred Thurber leaves Thursday for her home in Rhode Island.

Rev. A. Weber of Nada, Texas, was among old friends here, Monday.

Col. and Mrs. Wyatt O. Selkirk and Mrs. Fred B. Thurber, spent Wednesday in Galveston, visiting Mrs. William G. Thurber.

Mrs. Della Braden, Mrs. Lena Duller, Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. Wayne Hallmark and Miss Blake Terry attended the Eastern Star meeting in Bay City, Tuesday night.

Russell Matthes went to Houston last Friday night. Attended the Merit Badge show on Saturday also had some dental work done.

Sunday night Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes and family, Mrs. Della Braden, Mr. and Mrs. Albert White and Charles went to Bay City to hear the Bay City Choral Club.

Edward and Russell Matthes, attended the basketball supper at Collegeport Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sutton.

Mr. Taylor Wootton is visiting his wife and her family, this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thorp and Bobbie stopped by Brenham last Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Paul Braden.

Mr. Joe Lucas of El Maton was a visitor here Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Sanford spent Sunday in Engleside with Mr. and Mrs. Lance Williams and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Sanford, Jr.

Mrs. Robert Thorp and son, Bobby, and Miss Olla Mae Schulte were shoppers in Bay City Friday afternoon.

Friends will be glad to hear that Mrs. Della Braden, who has been ill, is greatly improved and will soon be able to be out.

Mrs. A. E. Schulte spent a few days in Clemville with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowger.

Sergeant Curl of Bay City was a business visitor here Monday.

Mrs. Harry Cowger and son and Miss Dorothy Suladie of Clemville spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schulte.

Bert Logan of Sweeny visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Logan, Friday night.

Miss Edna Matthes of Dallas and Miss Clara Matthes of Dallas and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Matthes of San Antonio spent Sunday with Mrs. B. C. Matthes and Mr. Frank Matthes and family.

Mr. Bean Butler attended the Oil Bowl game in Houston. His brother Bob came home with him.

Blessing Independent Ball team beat Louise Independent Ball team 44 to 17 last Monday night.

Mr. and Mrs. C. C. White and children are moving to Bishop, Tex.

Mrs. Lee Pierce shopped in Wharton Tuesday.

Mrs. L. C. Cornelius and Mrs. Ted Davant shopped in Bay City Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Nelson spent the week end in Houston.

Mrs. Arthur Foster is well enough to be back at work.

Mrs. Paul Wheeler, Mrs. L. C. Cornelius, Mrs. Ted Davant and Miss Inez Duffy, were Monday shoppers and business visitors in Bay City.

Mrs. and Mrs. Carl Ehlers and daughter of Palacios were visiting in Blessing Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Terry, also of Palacios, visited in Blessing Sunday.

James W. Wilson, of Galveston, Recruiting Officer for the Navy, was in Blessing Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Terry, also of Palacios, visited in Blessing Sunday.

The Blessing Town Basketball Team defeated Markham 29-0 Wednesday night. Also won over the Sweeny Oilers Thursday night.

Mrs. W. W. Heffelfinger and Nancy were business visitors in Houston Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dornak have moved to C. P. & L. Sub-Station. Steve was transferred here from Victoria, but was formerly from Blessing.

Mr. Tippitt, from the Central Power and Light Company office in Corpus Christi, was in Blessing and Bay City Thursday looking after business.

"Butsy" Huddleston, of Palacios, accompanied Bert Logan on a business mission to Bay City, Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hall, of Palacios, who visited their daughter, Mrs. Newton, in Bay City, Saturday, also visited a daughter in Midfield and friends in Blessing on their way home.

Mrs. Grace Scarborough, of Kennedy, was a guest of Mrs. Heffelfinger and Nancy at Live Oak Farm Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Towell, of Vanderbilt, were in Blessing Sunday afternoon. Mr. Towel is ... Magnolia Oil Lease..Farms.

Mr. and Mrs. W. __ Selkirk were Palacios visitors Saturday.

Miss Gertie Dobson was transacting business in Palacios, Friday.

John Lee, 89 years old, resident of Blessing since 1907, was found dead in his room Saturday. He was a partial invalid, having lost a leg some 25 years ago in an accident. He had no known survivors. Funeral services were held Sunday at Hawley Cemetery and remains interred.

Teachers from neighboring schools held a meeting in the Blessing High School Monday night with a program and reception afterwards.

Mrs. Terry and Mrs. A. J. Hebert of Clemville were Blessing visitors Monday evening.

Mrs. L. C. Cornelius and Mrs. Ted Davant were Bay City visitors Monday.

Blessing Red Birds defeated Crescent Baseball team at Louise Tuesday night 34-21. Hally Anderson was high point man for the Red Birds, making 11 points

Lt. T. W. Rhodes and family are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rhodes. Lt. Rhodes has transferred from a Florida station to California.

Miss Inez Duffy was visiting in Bay City Tuesday.

Mrs. Clyde Quinn was honored with a miscellaneous shower Tuesday night at the community house. The affair was a complete surprise for the honoree as it was previously announced as just a party and everyone invited. The attendants were both old and young and a large number enjoyed the hospitality. Mrs. Quinn, who was the former Evelyn Faye Daniels, is not employed as clerk in the post office.

Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Terry and Joyce of Palacios were visitors in the Rhodes home Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Harley Snider and children, Barbara Gail and Johnnie, were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Dobson, Saturday.

Ben Guynes moved to Palacios Monday where he will work at the barber's trade. Ben has just completed his course in Houston.

Mrs. L. C. Cornelius is visiting her son, George, in New Orleans, La., this week. She is accompanied by Mrs. W. O. Selkirk.

Miss Ola Mae Schulte, Bert Logan, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Helmecke, Lt. and Mrs. Rhodes, and B. B. Rhodes attended the dance in Palacios Saturday night.

Bill Massey was called to Dallas this week by the death of his father.

Mr. and Mrs. Willis Epperson and son were Houston visitors over the week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Butler were Conroe visitors last week.

Mrs. Julia Cornelius Taylor, of New Mexico was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Cornelius last week.

Mrs. A. B. Pierce, Mrs. Lee Hall and Mrs. Blanche McGregor spent Monday in Houston.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nesbet, of Houston, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hamelink.

Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Cornelius and Mrs. Julia Taylor attended the fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Duffy, in El Campo last Sunday.

After services at the Presbyterian Church Sunday, there was an Easter egg hunt for the small children.

Services Held Tuesday For Anthony Lezak

Anthony Lezak, age 5 years 11 months and 14 days, passed away at the family home in El Maton, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Lezak, two sisters, Delois and Evelyn, four brothers, Edwin, Marion, Jerry and Bobby Dean Lezak of El Maton.

Funeral services were held from the Blessing Catholic Church Tuesday at 9:30 a. m.

Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery at Blessing, Texas with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge of the services.

Abner Ussery , Jr., was taken to the St. Mary’s Infirmary in Galveston Saturday morning with a broken foot. The accident happened while Abner, Jr., was at work on a dragline.

Boy Scout Troop 236 of Blessing spent the week-end at Indianola Beach with Scout Masters Arthur Foster and Jerry Orsak, and committeemen A. R. Matthes and Ed Balusek, in charge. The boys had fire building, cooking, swimming, and rifle practice and a good time was reported by all.

Mr. and Mrs. Abner Ussery spent last Wednesday with Abner, Jr., at the St. Mary’s Infirmary. Abner, Jr. is much improved.

Mrs. Katie Engles and daughter Katie Roy, of Houston, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Nicholson.

Mr. and Mrs. David King of Houston spent Saturday morning visiting Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hamelink.

Master “Butch” Butler has returned home after spending two weeks with his grandparents in Conroe.

Mr. and Mrs. Barnett Bump and children of Houston are spending their vacation with Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Bump.

Miss Hattie Faye Nicholson has returned home after spending several weeks in Houston with her sister Mrs. Katie Engles.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Logan were Bay City visitors last Wednesday.

Mrs. M. D. Walker has returned to the Blessing Hotel after spending several weeks in Bay City with Mr. and Mrs. Grady Walker.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cox of Iago and Mrs. H. H. Harmon of Boling visited Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Salley Sunday.

A surprise birthday party was given by Mrs. W. O. Selkirk last Wednesday night at her home. Among the friends present were: Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Heck, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Cornelius, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Flanagan, Mrs. Luther Hill, Mrs. Sewell Lawson and daughter, Peggy, and Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman. Delicious refreshments of home made ice cream and cake were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Flanagan have returned to their home in San Antonio after spending two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Selkirk.

Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Siegfried had weekend guests, they were: Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Looker of Beeville, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Looker, Jr., and daughter of Grapeland, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Siegfried of Oklahoma City, and Mr. and Mrs. C H. Simpson of Madisonville.

Mrs. E. R. Vacek of Blessing was the lucky winner of the registered Brahma Bull given away at the American Legion Barbecue, Sunday.

Miss Betty Gene Matthes is leaving Sept. 1st for Nurses Training School in Houston.

A stork shower was given in honor of Mrs. John W. Merriwether last Thursday night at the Community house. Mrs. Merriwether received many lovely gifts. Delicious refreshments of chicken salad, Hi Ho Crackers, Olives, Potato chips and cokes were served.

Mrs. and Mrs. Louis Marcaurele and Laura visited Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Thomas over the week-end.

Mr. A. E. Schulte and Mr. A. C. Herreth made a trip to Bay City Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Butler and boy went to Conroe Saturday to visit Mr. Butler’s parents.

Mr. Homer Morris made a trip to Grapeland Friday to get Mrs. Morris. They returned home Sunday evening.

Mrs. A. C. Thomas has returned home after spending two weeks at the bed-side of her mother, Mrs. M. D. Walker in Bay City.

Mr. and Mrs. John W. Meriwether are the proud parents of a baby boy born September 30th at the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He weighs seven pounds and three ounces and was named William Walter.

Boy Scout Troop 236 spent the week-end on Carancahua Creek with Scoutmaster Arthur Foster and Jerry Orsak in charge. The boys taking cooking, hiking and pioneering. A good time was had by all.

A shower was given in honor of Mrs. Harold Brown, the former Dorothy Powell, at the Blessing Community House, October 21st. The bride received many beautiful and useful gifts.

Delicious refreshments of pumpkin pie with whipped cream and coffee were served.

Hostesses were Mesdames Schulte Harter Butler, Heck Butler Adams and Heck.

Tests Taken By Boy Scouts On All-Nite Camp

Boy Scout Troop 236 spent Saturday night on Carancahua Creek again with Scoutmaster Arthur Foster to pass Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class requirements. The Scouts also ran a night hiking course by the stars. Visitors were Rev. Bily, Mr. Pat McKissick, Jerry Orsak and Emil Balusek,

Mrs. Ruth Williams and Miss Esther Walker made a trip to Bandera, Texas, where they visited with their sister and family, Mrs. Taylor Wooten, they also stopped in Sabinal to see their cousins Amy Caskey and “Cotton” Stahl.

Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Herreth were: Mrs. Lawrence Herreth and son of Houston, Walter Herreth of Bryan, and Mrs. Charles Barlow and children of Bay City.

Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Butler, and C. P. Butler attended the Aldine-Falfurrias football game at Victoria Friday night.

Mrs. C. B. Bump, Mrs. H. E. Powell and Frances made a trip to Bay City Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. C. D. Salley and children and Miss Mary Manley spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cox in Iago.

Miss Esther Walker and Mrs. M. D. Walker of Bay City visited at the Blessing Hotel Sunday.

Mrs. Lee Pierce and Mrs. Melvin Lee were shoppers in Houston last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway spent Sunday with Mr. Rickaways’s sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. D. Mashack in Hallettsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnston of Houston spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Johnston.

The Community Church in Blessing will present a Christmas program Saturday night, December 18th at the church, starting at 7:30 o’clock.

Mr. Abner Ussery Jr. of Houston spent the week-end with his parents. Abner Jr. attends Rice Institute.

Mr. John Logan visited in Temple, Texas Sunday.

Quite a large number of Blessing, El Maton and Midfield people attended the Boy Scout Supper at Wesley Hall in Bay City Friday night.

Mrs. H. E. Powell, Mrs. B. C. Bumb [Bump?] and Frances made a trip to Bay City Monday.

Mr. “Buster” Schnurpel made a business trip to Houston Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brod and Anell of Fort Worth are visiting in the Foster home.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowger and children of Clemville were visiting the Schultes Monday night.

Sunday dinner gusts of Mrs. Ruth Williams were Mrs. M. D. Walker, Miss Esther Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams and Sherry all of Bay City.
