Men from Kaufman County saw action throughout the Civil War, and the county provided several companies to the war effort.  Among the companies with large contingents of Kaufman county men were:

3rd Texas Cavalry — Brief History
3rd Texas Cavalry, Co F
(original Capt. Isham Chisum) and
3rd Texas Cavalry, Co G
(also contained men from Marion county),  organized in the summer of 1861, saw action in Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.

6th Texas Cavalry, Co A (original Capt. A. J. Hardin) and
6th Texas Cavalry, Co B (original Capt. J. S. Griffith)
organized in the fall of 1861, saw action in the Indian Territory, Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.

7th Texas Infantry, Co C (original Capt. E. T. Broughton)
(also had men from Anderson county),  organized in the fall of 1861, saw action in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia.

12th Texas Cavalry, Co G (original Capt. H. W. Kyser)
organized in the fall of 1861, saw action in Arkansas and Louisiana.

15th Texas Cavalry — Brief History
15th Texas Cavalry, Co C (original Capt. William K. Mastin)
(also contained men from Collin county),  organized in the spring of 1862, saw action in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Georgia.  Part of the company returned to Texas after serving in Arkansas.

19th Texas Cavalry, Co G (original Capt. Dubart Murphy)
organized in the spring of 1862, saw action in Arkansas and Louisiana.

20th Texas Cavalry — Brief History
20th Texas Cavalry, Co C (original Capt. John R. Johnson) and
20th Texas Cavalry, Co D (later E, original Capt. Thomas P. Andrews)  organized in the spring of 1862, saw action in Arkansas and the Indian Territory

2nd Texas Partisan Rangers — Brief History
2nd Texas Partisan Rangers, Co K (original Capt. Emberry Cannon) organized in the spring of 1863, saw action in Louisiana and Arkansas

Terrell's Texas Cavalry, Co A (original Capt. Israel Spikes)
organized in the spring of 1863, did some guard duty on the Texas coast, then saw action in Louisiana

2nd Cavalry, Texas State Troops, Co G (original Capt. A. J. Hardin)  organized in the fall of 1863, saw brief guard duty in winter 1863-64 on the Texas Coast.  Also contained men from Henderson county.

3rd Infantry, Texas State Troops, Co G (original Capt. Tandy Howeth) organized in the fall of 1863, saw brief guard duty in winter 1863-64 on the Texas Coast.  Also contained men from Henderson county.

Smaller numbers of Kaufman county men were scattered in:
6th Texas Cavalry Co E (mostly Van Zandt County),
11th Texas Infantry Co I (mostly Van Zandt County), and
1st Texas Partisan Rangers (Lane's Regiment) Co N.
