The death notices that appear in these books are from Texas newspapers available on microfilm, located in Kaufman County and Van Zandt County libraries. Some of the notices only mention the genealogical information about the deceased and not their burial site. Care was taken to abstract the most pertinent information, but there may be other information in the obituary that a researcher could find clues to their ancestors. Sources used were cemetery records published by the Kaufman County Genealogical Society {however, not all of the Kaufman County cemeteries were published}, Graveyards of Van Zandt County, Texas, City of Terrell Death Records, Kaufman County Courthouse Death Records, the Texas Baptist Newspaper Abstracts, Texas Methodist Newspaper Abstracts, Texas Presbyterian Newspaper Abstracts, Southwestern Presbyterian Newspaper Abstracts, Forney Tribune, Forney Messenger, Houston Post, Galveston News, Mabank Banner, Terrell Texas Star, Terrell Tribune, Daily Tribune, Kaufman Sun, Wills Point Chronicle, the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Kaufman County Texas Mortality List. Often found were discrepancies between the published cemetery books and the newspaper notices, which were noted. Each volume is fully indexed. Included in the volumes, but not necessarily in each one, are locations of the microfilms at each library in Kaufman County, glossary of diseases, cemeteries located by quadrants in Kaufman County and a list of communities of Kaufman County.
