(Obituary - J. E. Ardis, age 73, passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 24, 1934, at the 
home of his daughter, Mrs. Dowe Harris, at Overland, following a stroke Saturday night. 
His wife passed away exactly six months ago. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. 
Nonnie Russell, Commerce, and Mrs. Vergoe Harris, Overland; one son, Julius Ardis, of 
Gafford Chapel, and one brother, Julius, of California. One daughter, Miss Omar (sic) 
Ardis, passed away seven years ago. Funeral services and burial were held at Gaffords 
Chapel, conducted by Dr. J. Sam Barcus. He was a native of Kentucky and came to Texas 
with his fathers family early in life and settled in Gaffords Chapel community
