SpringFest 2013

The Sunday after Easter, April 7, celebrate with us at the SPJST Lodge #88, 1435 Beall Street at 15th Street in the Heights area of Houston.

The annual CHS-HCC SpringFest will once again bring to you traditional Czech song, dance, crafts, and delights to the palate.

The Wallachian Ensemble group "Radhost" will transport you to enjoyment of the traditional entertainment of the mountains of Moravia. Artist Frantiska Snopkova brings you the folk art of the region with her handmade corn husk figures. For your listening and dancing pleasure, Kovanda's Czech Band and the Texas Legacy Czech Band will play throughout the day.

Registration opens at 11 am. A traditional Czech Sunday dinner will be catered by Ben's Chuck Wagon.

The Country Store features kolaches and other homemade preserves and delicacies, as well as treasured artifacts. The very large Silent Auction offers a variety of items to tempt you bidding, and the Plant Booth can fill your yard and garden with old favorites and even Czech vegetable plants. Cultural exhibits and a variety of vendors, plus children's games to keep the kiddies happy, will round out your festival day.

Czech-Slovak Group for Harris County

"Czechs, Slovaks in Houston" is a Web site for all the good people who have a relationship with the Czech and Slovak Republics. This is not a formal organization, but rather a group for Czechs and Slovaks in the Houston area who like to get together and talk. The Web site is in Czech.

A number of our copies of family histories were damaged when Hurricane Ike hit the CHS Harris County Library. We would appreciate replacement copies if you are able to provide them. If you have not yet shared your family history with the CHS Harris County Library, please consider making your hard work available to other Czech-Texans.

A partial listing of books available at the Harris County Chapter Library has been added to the Library page.

Who We Are

The Harris County Chapter CHS is dedicated to the study and preservation of Czech genealogy, history, culture and language.

The Harris County Chapter maintains significant research materials (browse our holdings!) in the Chapter Library at 4117 Willowbend Blvd. in southwest Houston. Come and research your ancestry with the help of our volunteer staff.

Harris County Chapter members voluntarily staff and maintain the Library and Archives, providing resources and personalized help for hands-on research. With your support and the continued success of our annual Czech SpringFest and Soup Tasting, we will maintain our Chapter building and Library to support your interest in genealogical research and our Czech heritage.
