Tom "Toby" Yates
Weinert
Tom (Toby) Yates, 84, of Weinert passed away
Monday, February 6, 2012, in Haskell, Texas. Funeral
services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8,
at First Baptist Church of Weinert with burial
in Weinert Cemetery under the direction of
McCauley-Smith Funeral Home in Munday.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at the
funeral home.
Mr. Yates was born August 24, 1927, in Knox
County to Charlie Bell Yates and Mary Clayborn
Yates. He served in the US Army at the end of
WWII. He married Alice Cypert on September 21,
1947, in Haskell, Texas. They resided at Weinert
where he farmed for 58 years. He was a member of
First Baptist Church of Weinert and served
on the Building and Grounds Committee for many
years. He also served on the Weinert Gin Board
and the Weinert School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his
three brothers, William "Bill" Yates, Charles
"Cowboy" Yates and Floyd "Bud" Yates and by his
sisters Ballie Cooksey, Lucille Smith, Dorothy
Pierce, Mary Reynolds, Angie Slaughter and
Virginia "Jinx" Burnison.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Yates, of Weinert, two daughters, Mary and Ed Murphy of
Weinert, and Linda and Ricky Wade of Bryson, and
one son, Joe and Caron Yates of Weinert; seven
grandchildren, Shanna White, Lane Murphy, Jace
Yates, Dustin Yates, TJ Yates, Taylor Wade and
Tanner Wade; and four great-grandchildren,
Bracken White, Toby White, Harper Murphy and
Waylon Yates.
