Linda Dell Penman
Abilene

Linda Dell Penman, 67, of Abilene, TX, passed from this life to the next on Friday, October 21, 2011. The family will receive friends for a memorial service Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Abilene at 4:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. with Reverend Joseph Barrett officiating.
Linda was born March 20, 1944 to William Dell and Sarah Ione Allen Penman in Haskell, TX. She felt fortunate to have grown up in the small community of Rochester, TX, where the students could participate in any activity or sport they chose. She was a majorette and later the drum major for the marching band, played first chair clarinet in the concert band, and played alto sax in the stage band. In her senior year she was Queen of the Abilene West Texas Fair and graduated from Rochester High School in 1962.
Linda graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University in 1966, and that summer married Ben Faulkner and moved to Big Spring. They had two boys, Terry and Scott. Very active in the community and church, Linda played bells for the choir and taught Sunday School in the First Methodist Church. She was State Vice-President for the Jaycee-Ettes. She cut up and cooked rattlesnake for the Jaycee Rattlesnake Roundup for ten years, and even milked a rattlesnake in the pit - one time.
After a divorce in 1976, Linda and her boys moved to San Angelo. She was State Section Director for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) for Howard and Val Verde Counties, and was the contact person for people to report sightings. She graduated with a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Angelo State University in 1980. Linda worked at the San Angelo State School as an Associate Psychologist until she moved to Abilene in 1994. She then worked at the Abilene State School as an Associate Psychologist, and retired from TX MHMR in 2000. Linda returned to work as a Counselor with Windham ISD at the Robertson and Middleton prisons and retired again in August, 2010.
Linda enjoyed golf, snow skiing, motorcycling, and scuba diving, was a private pilot and true to her Scottish heritage and love of music, played the bagpipes as a member of the Abilene Pipers. She and friends from childhood traveled to many parts of the world. They snorkeled in the Australian Great Barrier Reef, cruised to Alaska, trekked through Spain, explored Pompeii, climbed magical Machu Picchu, visited Stonehenge, participated in tribal ceremony in Fiji, climbed a temple in Yucatan, Mexico, zip-lined in the Caribbean and visited many other places.
Linda is survived by her children, Terry Dell Faulkner of Abilene and Scott Ashton Faulkner, of San Angelo; her granddaughter, Lindsey Dell Faulkner of Sherman; her brothers, Bill Penman of Rochester and Bob Penman of Austin; and many relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Grace Flight, or the church/charity of choice.
