Walter Richard "WR" Hager, Jr. of Weinert passed away in Abilene, Texas, May 5, 2012, at the age of 86. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 7, 2012, in Weinert with Rev. Dan Bullock officiating. Burial will be at Willow Cemetery in Haskell under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.

"WR" was born September 11, 1925, in New Hope, Texas to Bertha Seay Mickler and Walter Richard (Bill) Hager, Sr. He married Joyce Grand in Stamford, Texas on December 22, 1943 and lived in Weinert for 43 years. "WR" served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, but once discharged, came home and continued his love of ranching and farming. Mr. Hager was a member of the First Baptist Church in Weinert.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bertha Hager; two sons, Walter Richard Hager III and Ronald Keith Hager. "WR" and Keith both passed on May 5, but Keith in 1954. Also preceded are his two brothers, Dolly Hager and Jack Hager; and his sister, Margaret Ruth Kiker.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Hager; 3 daughters, Kathy Roberts and husband Rokki, Sue Stewart and husband Dewayne Phillips, and Kim Howard and husband Bobby; 1 son, Stanley Hager and wife Brenda; 4 grandsons; Justin Stewart and wife Angela, Eric Hager and fiancé Kristin Ray, Jeremy Hager and wife Candice, and Rusty Howard; 4 granddaughters, Heather Wilhelm and husband Coby, Angela Hatfield and husband Heath, Mindy Howard, and Kourtney Howard; 6 great- granddaughters, Kayele Wilhelm,Bailea Wilhelm, Kylei Stewart, Kenzli Hager, Roslyn Stewart, and Brenley Hatfield; 2 great-grandsons, Cooper Wilhelm, and Hunter Stewart; 2 brothers, Don Hager and wife Tanis, and Chris Hager and wife Joyce; and a sister, Golda June Neff; and numerous nieces and nephews.
