Bernard B. Gilmore, age 97, of Olney TX, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, in Olney TX.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in the chapel of
Lunn Funeral Home with Dr. Ed Hart of Seymour and Bob Hayley, CPL of the First
Presbyterian Church in Throckmorton, officiating. Interment followed in Throckmorton Cemetery in Throckmorton under the
direction of Lunn Funeral Home. Mr. Gilmore was born September 24, 1911, in Throckmorton County to the late Ira L. and Ida
(Means) Gilmore. He and Pauline Timmons were married April 10, 1944, in Elbert.
She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 2007.
Mr. Gilmore was a
rancher and taught school in Elbert and the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. While serving
in the Army during WWII, he taught numerous men how to read. He received bronze
stars from the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the Philippine Liberation. He
served as the Throckmorton County Clerk for several years. He was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church in Throckmorton, where he served as an elder
since 1946. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and a past member of the
American Legion. He moved to Olney from Elbert in 1985. He was preceded in
death by one son, Dennis Lee Gilmore, on Nov. 23, 1951.
Survivors include
one son, Dale Gilmore and wife Kathy of Olney; one sister, Allene Patrick of
Irving; three grandchildren, Michael Gilmore and wife Charity, Ira Gilmore, and
Molly Cauble and husband Robert; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be
