Rene Garcia, 40, of Weinert and lifelong
resident of Haskell County, passed away Tuesday
morning, August 7, 2012 in Knox City. Funeral
services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday,
August 10, 2012 at St. George Catholic Church in
Haskell with Fr. George Roney officiating.
Burial will be at Willow Cemetery under the
direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes.
Rene was born in Haskell on September 20, 1971
to Donaciano and Hipolita (Salas) Garcia. He
graduated from Haskell High School with the
class of 1991. Rene was a proud Haskell Indian
and played football his 4 years of high school
earning an honorable mention as a guard for all
district. Texas A&M showed interest in
recruiting Rene, but due to an injury those
plans were retired.
Rene was a happy and joyful man with a childlike
laugh. He lightened a room wherever he went and
was always ready to tell a story or top yours.
Rene loved to cook out, loved to dance, and
loved all kinds of music. He enjoyed life and
enjoyed being with the people he loved. Rene was
a member of St. George Catholic Church and he
was a driller Key Energy Services.
He is preceded in death by his father, Donaciano
Garcia who passed away in 1983.
He is very lovingly survived by his mother,
Paula Garcia of Haskell, his 2 sisters, Diana
Nichols of Tampa, Florida and Silvia Escobedo of
Austin, Texas; one brother, Homer Garcia of
Haskell; 3 nephews, Timmy Escobedo, Jr.,
Jeremiah Escobedo, Christian Nichols; 2 nieces,
Jennifer Garcia, Monica Nichols; 1 great nephew;
2 great nieces; his Godparents, Raymond and
Tomas Andrada; and girlfriend, Alicia Pedroza. .
