Joy Marie (Cobb) Chapman, 92, passed away Saturday morning, May 19, 2012, at Haskell Memorial Hospital in Haskell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and The Lydia Sunday School class. Services are planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Haskell with Dr. Troy Culpepper and Rev. Jim McCurley officiating. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is Tuesday evening, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joy Marie Cobb was born in Haskell County on December 31, 1919, to Truett C. and Myrtle Wheatley Cobb. She attended Roberts School and then graduated from Haskell High School in 1936. Joy married Jack Chapman at Roberts Baptist Church on April 16, 1942. Mrs. Chapman was a homemaker and integral part of the family farm and ranch operation. She was ambitious and worked a variety of jobs including working at an aircraft factory during her one year stint in California. Though she had many talents, she found her niche in the ladies retail shoe business. Joy was most known for being the owner of the Slipper Shoppe in Haskell and for being supportive of family and community activities. She rarely missed an athletic, academic or community event.

Mrs. Chapman is preceded in death by her parents, Truett and Myrtle Cobb; her husband, Jack Chapman; 2 sisters, Evelyn Peebles and Fern Bassing; and her brother, Virgil Cobb.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Ronnie Chapman and wife Linda of Haskell, Keith Chapman of Georgetown, Texas, Terry Chapman and wife Ruth of Norman, Oklahoma; 1 daughter, Glenda Gayle Rutkowski and husband John of Haskell; 7 grandchildren, Melissa Chapman Tatum and husband Christopher and Ronald Jack Chapman, Haylee and Caroline Chapman, Brittany, Weston and Ashton Rutkowski; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Garret, Taylor and Krislyn Tatum; 2 sisters, Ernestine Kelling of Moab, Utah, Wynell Ford and her husband J.L. of Malaga, Washington; brother, Toxie Cobb and wife Nancy of Farmington, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Evelyn Cobb of Haskell; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends Elaine Glover and Tina Johnson.

The pallbearers will be Ronnie, Keith and Terry Chapman, Ronald Jack Chapman, Weston Rutkowski, Jack Peebles, Gary and Bobby Cobb, John Rutkowski and Christopher Tatum.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Joy's name to Roberts Cemetery Association, 1001 North Ave F, Haskell, Texas 79521.
