Alsup Cemetery
(Original Friendship Cemetery)

This cemetery was read on February 4, 1990 by Ryan and Thomas Coker as a part of Ryan's Eagle Scout project. Thank you Ryan for allowing us to include this cemetery information in the Gregg County, TXGenWeb Project!

This cemetery is located outside the Gladewater city limits, just over the Gregg County line into Smith County. Take Hwy. 271 south out of Gladewater, turn left on Hwy. 135, and then a right onto Country Club Rd. Go several miles to Lovelady Rd. and turn left. In about a mile this rd. will dead end into another road. Turn right.  Turn left on the wide dirt road. At the dead end, the cemetery is about 20 yards slightly to the right. This is a very small cemetery, apparently abandoned. There are four marked graves inside the fence, two marked graves outside the fence, and possibly two others marked only with native iron ore stones at the head and foot. There are probably many other unmarked graves scattered over the property.

NOTE: Sunday, October 9, 2005 Eddie Phillips, Etta Withers & Elaine Martin visited this cemetery and took pictures.  Travis Garner showed us the location.  We were also told that this was the original Friendship Cemetery, but this has not been researched to know for sure.
