James Warren Smith, Jr

James Warren Smith Jr., born January 24, 1944 in Pearsall, Texas, passed into eternity to be with his Lord on August 14, 2011 at the age of sixty-seven.

Graduating from Burnet High School in 1962, he earned a B.A. degree in History and Political Science as well as a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Baylor University. Entering the U.S. Navy in 1969, Mr. Smith served four years, seven months.

After his naval service, he was appointed Frio County Attorney in 1975 where he served till January 2001. At that time the Frio County Commissioners appointed him as legal counsel; he served faithfully till his health forced him to retire June 30, 2011.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, James Warren Smith and Normadale Adams Smith descendants of pioneer Frio County and West Texas families.

He is survived by a sister, Dora Jo Carter; an aunt Geraldine Adams White; nieces Carolyn Grace Nicholson and Emily Grace Simcox; nephews, William Luther Carter, Jr. and John David Nicholson; and cousins, Helen Smith Carroll and Mary Jo Phillips.

James Warren Smith pursued biblical studies, historical reading, and even the study of physics throughout is life.

Friends are invited to both the viewing at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pearsall, Texas, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 2pm to 9pm with the funeral at 9am Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Hurley Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in the Pearsall Cemetery.
