Mark
Brian Gilmer, 54, of Robinson, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009 at his
residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Louis
Catholic Church with Father David Leibham as celebrant. Burial will be held
later at Gatesville Cemetery. Friends are invited to a Service of Remembrance
at 7 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., followed by
viewing and visitation with his family.
Mark
was born September 29, 1954 in Houston to Belvin and Clydene (Price) Gilmer. He
graduated from Midway High School Class of 1973. He graduated from Baylor
University with a degree in education in 1977. After graduation, he was a House
Parent at the St. Joseph for Abandoned Children in Dallas. He then was a
copy editor for the Wichita Falls Time Record and for the Waco Tribune-Herald.
For the past ten years, he was with the Chilton Independent School District
where he enjoyed teaching and coaching until he retired for medical reasons in
May 2008. He loved golfing and baseball, and was an umpire for 17 years for
high school, little league, and special team games.
Mark
married Maryann Hodovanic on March 25, 2006 in Waco, and he was a loving son,
husband, and step-father who will be greatly missed. He was a member of St.
Louis Catholic Church.
Mark
was preceded in death by his father.
He
is survived by his wife, Maryann; mother, Clydene Gilmer of Hewitt; brother,
John H. Gilmer and wife, Loise; niece, Jillian Gilmer; nephew, Jackson Gilmer,
all of Parker, CO.; step-sons, Brandon and Jason Cameron of Waco; and special
friends, Bruce Brint of Waco and Randy Hoffmeyer of Seattle, WA.
The
family especially thanks Wayne Lawson, PA; Pat O'Rourke, RN MSN at the Cancer
Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio; Linda Noe at Scott & White
Hospital; and Scott & White Hospice, all for their excellent care.
