Marlin, Falls Co., Texas
Concha Velez Garza, age 80, of Marlin,
entered into rest on Friday December 19, 2008. Graveside services were held at
11 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Calvary Cemetery for family members
only with Dr. Holly Mitchell officiating.
Concha was born May 28, 1928 in Marlin to
Francisco and Maria Velez Garza. She attended the Spanish Baptist Church and
was a life long resident of Marlin. Her life was dedicated to taking care of
her parents, and following their deaths, she volunteered at the Samaritan House
for 13 years. She received the following awards for her volunteerism:
Certificate of appreciation from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program;
certificate of appreciation from the Samaritan House; Certificate of Citation
from State Representative Kip Averitt for her invaluable contribution to the
Heart of Texas Retired Senior Volunteer Program. In July of 1996, Connie had
logged 4,341 hours of service to the Samaritan House. She enjoyed her flower
garden and walking to visit her neighbors.
Brothers, Atanacio Garza and
Francisco Garza, Jr. and sisters, Carlos Garza and Elvira Garza Ortiz, preceded
her in death.
Survivors include her sisters, Mary
Garza Cantu of Waco, Gloria Valdez of Houston, Julia Morin of Marlin and
McKinney; brother, Raymond Garza of Lake Dallas.
The family would like to thank Dr.
Dileep Bhateley, Dr. Christen LaBlanc, Dr. Carl Chakmakjian and Dr. Kreis
Siegfried of Lakeshore Village Healthcare Center for their dedicated care for
Connie.
