Obituary

       MR. AND MRS. C. f. DREWITZ.

       Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Drewitz, who met a tragic death when their car was struck by a motor car on the Southern Pacific railway near Waco on Saturday, May 30, came to Texas from Germany about forty-nine years ago.  They arrived they could not speak or understand a word of their newly adopted country.  They first lived near Mexia, later moving to Falls county and settling about five miles northeast of Marlin.  After many hardships, made especially heavy because of their inability to understand the English language and their inexperience as farmers (they came from the city of Berlin), they managed to make progress and pay for their farm.  A few years ago Mr. Drewitz retired and moved to Riesel, where they lived at the time of their untimely deaths at the age of 72 and 77 years.
       Mr. and Mrs. Drewitz are survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emil Newmann of Marlin, Mrs. R. H. Manning of Waco, and a large number of grandchildren.  One daughter, Mrs. George Polster, died a few years ago, and another daughter, Miss Drewitz, lost her life about 1909 when, as a young girl, she jumped off a wagon on a picnic and was kicked by a horse.
       Joined in matrimony in the old country, the lives of these two pioneer citizens carried on together to the end, through trials, sorrows and joys, finally meeting death together at the same instant.  Their bodies were lowered simultaneously in the grave.
       Their large circle of friends was attested by the large number who attended the funeral Sunday.  Friends said the number of people present was greater than any crowd ever assembled at St. Paul church for a similar occasion.  Mr. and Mrs. Drewitz were members of the St. Paul church for a number of years.
