     C. N. Dickens, a well known citizen of Falls county, who has been a resident of Salt Branch neighborhood for several years, died at his on February 2. He was born December 5, 1850, in Russell County, Alabama. He was married February 3, 1889; came to Texas in 1910. Nine children were born into the family; eight survive him. All were present at his death except Sidney, who lives at Port Arthur. We laid him to rest Sunday afternoon, February 3, 1918, at three o’clock. A large audience from Reagan and surrounding territory attended the funeral services. Bro. Dickens was a member of the Baptist church. He was always subject to the powers that be, faithful to the trust committed to his hands. He was gentle in the simplicity of his manner and cordial and sincere in his exhibitions of his friendship. When the call came for him “to put out to sea,” he was ready. The ties of memory, love, and friendship are not broken by the hand of death. Many floral tributes evinced the wide range and deep channels of friendship in which the family is held in all these parts.

 

     May divine comfort and strength be theirs, who so patiently bear this stroke of bereavement. The time is not long, children, and the distance not great to the borderland of that realm where eternal reunions will soon be consummated.
