Engleke, Lange, Davenport
Edna Elsie Marie Lange Davenport was born December 31,1919, to Ida
Engleke Lange and Rudolph Lange in the community of St. Paul, Falls County,
Texas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed
(UCC) Church near Marlin. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on March 12,
2005, at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 13 days. At the time of her passing,
she was comforted by her family at her bedside. Edna grew up in the St. Paul
Community and moved to Marlin in the late 1930's. She married Walter Burnet
Davenport on April 19, 1950, and they had one daughter, Janette. Edna worked
for several businesses in Marlin and retired from the Torbet-Hutchins- Smith
Memorial Hospital in 1986. In 1988 she moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her
daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Hank Horak. She helped raise her two
grandsons, Frank and Jake, who were the joy and beauty in her life. Edna was
the day to day caregiver to her grandsons until they reached the age of three and
could out-run her. The grandsons returned the favor by loving and helping care
for Edna during the last months of her life. Edna was predeceased by her parents,
a brother William Lange and her husband W. B. Davenport. She is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Janette and Hank Horak; grandsons Frank and Jacob
Horak; six sisters, Alice Bletsch, Esther and husband, Elton Manthei, Ruth
Mandel, Bernice and husband Gilbert Schroeder, Dorothy Reeves, Eileen Vanous;
along with several nieces and nephews.
