NEGRO KILLED BY LIGHTNING.

Tuesday evening General Burke, a negro was struck and
instantly killed by lightning during the rain storm while chopping cotton in
the field of Mrs. Cowan. He was in the act of filing his hoe when he was struck
with the above results. He was about 35 years of age and had been an employe on
the Cowan farm several years. In the field with him were Grady Cowan, Leslie
Hannahand a negro all of whom were more or less shaken up. Grady and Leslie
were both knocked down but rose immediately running to the house.
