Annual Homecoming Event Held at Criswell Center

The Seventeenth Annual Criswell Cemetery Memorial
Homecoming was held Sunday, June 9, at the Criswell Community Center.
There was a large crowd in attendance, with visitors from all over the state,
and also several from other states.
The community center grounds and the cemetery were
clean and freshly mowed. The cemetery was decorated with both fresh and
artificial flowers. Mrs. Alta Caddell furnished several floral
arrangements.
Activities for the day started at 11 a.m., with Ollie
Campbell as master of ceremonies; Thomas Criswell as song leader; Mrs. Aubrey
Stone, pianist, and Mrs. George Stone, program chairman.
Thomas Criswell gave the welcome and led in prayer.
Mrs. Jane Baron sang “The Lily of The Valley” accompanied by Mrs. Aubrey Stone
at the piano.
The Mortuary list included the names of Mrs. Albert
Wolf, Will Stone, Mrs. Gordon Climer, Jeff Chatmas, Edell Stone, Mrs. Wade
Simmons, Rev. Fred Wolf, Willie Herring, Ralph Griffith, Hearley Stone, Mrs.
Emma Mercer, Clint Erskine and Mrs. Maurine Arnold. The Rev. Hugh Durham
read the list and said the memorial prayer. He also gave the memorial
address. Rev. Durham is pastor of the Dickinson, Texas, Baptist Church.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Durham of Dallas, and the grandson of the
late Rev. and Mrs. I. H. Willingham of Marlin.
Ollie Campbell gave the benediction.
At noon a basket lunch was served. W. E. Clonts
of Knox City, Texas, gave the invocation. At 1:30 p.m., a business meeting
was held. Dwain Caddell, the president, presided. The minutes and
treasurer’s report was given by the secretary-treasurer, Mrs. C. C. Stone.
Three directors were elected. They are G. Z. Stone, Arley Walts and James
Bowers.
Contributions were made for the upkeep of the cemetery
and also the community center building.
A sing song was held throughout the evening.
