DAIRYMAN LOWERS HIS
EXPENSE OF PRODUCTION

However Net Profit For March and
April Less Than Same Months
Last Year

J. B. Davis, Chilton dairy farmer, lowered his feed production cost from 20 cents per pound butterfat in April of 1930 to 17 7-10 cents per pound the same month this year, and from 24 9-10 cents per pound in March of last year to 19 5-10 cents per pound for the same month this year, figures supplied Dan Clinton, county farm agent, show.

However, he netted only $30.89 from his herd above feed costs in April of this year, compared with $86.62 in April of last year, and only $20.55 in March of this year, compared with $44.17 in the same month last year.

In March of last year, Mr. Davis milked 10 cows, while in April of 1930 he had 12 producers, the same number comprising his herd for both months this year.

In March of this year, Mr. Davis got 5885 pounds of milk yielding 228 7-10 pounds of butterfat, valued at 32 cents a pound, making an aggregate of $74.18.  He charged $1 per head for pasturage, a total of $12. and fed 2840 pounds of grain valued at $32.63, making total feed costs of $44.63.

During April, he got 6567 pounds of milk yielding 253 4-10 pounds of fat at 30 cents a pound, an aggregate of $76.04.  Pasturage of $12 and 2880 pounds of grain valued at $33.12 brought total feed costs to
$45.12.
