MR. & MRS. JOHN WALLACE
HONORED BY OLD-TIMERS

Interesting Lives Are Recounted by Venerable
Couples, Both Still Active and
(missing) Interested in Life

By Mark Isaacks

Sixty-two years of married life is the proud record of two couples who attened the second annual Pioneers' Day at Temple Friday.  Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Parham of Route 2, Eddy, celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary in February, and Mr. and Mrs. John A. Wallace of Route 2, Belton, will celebrate their sixty-second anniversary in November.
To Janie Bowers, daughter of a North Carolinian, and S. A. Parham, who were married in 1872 in Mississippi, were born five children, three of whom are living, now and make their homes in Texas, one in Temple, one in Eddy, and one in Little River.  All are members of the Pioneers Club.
Mr. Parham is the son of native Georgians, and he is a native of Mississippi.

       To Texas in '79

After their marriage in '72, they came to Texas in '79, settling in Bell County at Little River.  Mr. Parham has always farmed, until his retirement a few years ago and even now, he has a large garden which he cares for with the help of Mrs. Parham.
Mrs. Parham does her own housework, tending to the chickens and helping with the garden.  They also have a cow.

Interesting Story Told

An interesting story is told by Mr. Parham of the uncle who fought and died in this battle.  The day before he left to go to war, he visited his sister, Mr. Parham's mother, who was quite ill.  When he left, he gave her a pint flask of wine; she never saw him again, but she kept the flask and later gave it to Mr. Parham who still has the flask which is now 73 years old.
He has another interesting possession which he brought to Temple with him Friday, exhibiting it to the Pioneers.  It is a pair of trousers, worn by Mr. Parham in 1850 when his parents carried him on a visit from Mississippi to their former in Georgia.  They are yellow with black polka dots, and were worn over his other clothes.

Aunt 33 Years Younger

Mr. Parham challenges any one to better one record in his family; he has a half-aunt, Mrs. Joe Hill who lives about three miles east of Temple, who is 33 years younger than he.
