WILL CONVENE IN MARLIN

About One Hundred Delegates Ex-
pected From All Sections
of Texas.

       Announcement is made that the Texas Federation of Negro Women's Clubs will hold its 26th annual convention in Marlin July 7, 8 and 9, about 100 delegates being expected to attend from all sections of the state.  Day sessions will be held at the negro Methodist church on Durr street and night programs will be presented in the Marlin negro Baptist church on Bennett street.
       Aims of the organization are outlined as for the general uplift of humanity.  Included in its accomplishments is a law passed by the Texas legislature providing for a for delinquent negro girls and obtaining of improved travel accommodations for negroes on the railroads.
       Owning $5,000 worth of property in San Antonio, the organization has about 1,500 members in Texas and is affiliated with the national association.  Marlin has four clubs affiliated with the state federation.

Speakers Announced.

       Several white speakers are announced on the program during the session, including three officials of the state Federation of Women's Clubs, Mrs. R. F. Lindsay of Mt. Pleasant, president, and Mrs. J. L. Young of Mineral Wells, chairman of the Better Homes for America movement, both of whom will be heard Wednesday evening, July 8, and Mrs. J. L. Brock of Bryan, district chairman, who will speak that morning: Cecil Glass, president of the Marlin Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Levi Goodrich and Miss Marjorie Rogers, president and corresponding secretary of the City Federation of Clubs of Marlin; also Prof. R. M. Woods of Huntsville, interracial committee worker, while an invitation has been extended to Senator Tom Connally.
       The announcement also states that the program will include talks by President A. B. Dement of the Texas Federation of Negro Women's Clubs, Mineral Wells; retiring President A. E. S. Johnson of the organization, Marlin; Dr. A. L. Hunter of Marlin, and others active in the work of the organization.
       Interspersed with the programs will be entertainment of various kinds for the visitors, it is stated.
